Caroline Wozniacki vs Elina Svitolina (4-6, 0-6)

Elina Svitolina could have been excused for losing the final after a physically draining weekend that saw her play two matches on the same day. However, she fought through the exhaustion and proved betting tips wrong to cap a fantastic weekend in Toronto.

Winning her first Rogers Cup title was no easy feat for the 22-year-old Ukrainian, and it’s an even more remarkable achievement given the fact that she battled three Top 6 players in a span of two days – beating Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep a few hours apart before dominating Caroline Wozniacki in the big finale.

Betting odds were swinging in Wozniacki’s favour ahead of the match, but she never really threatened in the game to the disappointment of the tennis live betting faithful.

Both players started rather evenly as they try to feel each other out. Nonetheless, with the first set tied at 4-4, a break at love gave Svitolina the edge and she never looked back again throughout the 77-minute match.

Svitolina relied heavily on her strong baseline game and fantastic retrieving to put pressure on Wozniacki, and it paid off as the Dane committed a lot of crucial unforced errors that eventually caused her demise.

The 27-year-old former World No.1 tried adjusting her shots, but it has no effect on Svitolina’s strong service and return game as the Ukrainian fifth seed blew her out come the second set.

The two finished with four aces apiece, though Svitolina dominated on other aspects, winning 32 of her 53 service points as compared to Wozniacki who finished with just 19 service points won out of 46.

“I need some time still to really realize [what happened] because I had so many matches for the last two days,” a happy Svitolina said after hoisting the Rogers Cup trophy.

“It’s been really, really tough physically…I’m just very happy that it’s finished. And with a title, it’s even more special.”

The win gave Svitolina her fifth title of 2017 and made her the first woman to win three Premier 5 level events in the same year. It will also bump her to No.4 in the rankings and could become No.1 if everything goes her way in the Cincinnati Open.

For Wozniacki, she remains without a title this year as this loss marks her sixth finals defeat this year, putting more question to her ability to perform on the big stage.
