Pride, Honour, Glory: It’s Time for the Big Davis Cup!

countdown banner

Davis Cup Men’s SF

Nothing beats the Davis Cup when it comes to team tennis. It’s called the World Cup of the sport, after all.

So when Belgium, Australia, France and Serbia take centre stage in the semi-finals of the highly-anticipated live betting affair, they will all look to get good results and make it to the finals.

Each nation have already called up their best players available, despite some injuries to top stars, to command the betting odds; and with pride and glory at stake, the three-day battle will certainly be a treat for online gambling fans.

Belgium vs Australia

With outright odds of 2.50, Australia are second-favourites to win the tournament, and for a good reason.

Led by the ever polarising star, Nick Kyrgios, the Aussies dispatched the USA on their way to this stage despite threats from top players like Jack Sock, Sam Querrey and John Isner.

They are 28-time champions of the tournament as well, so they will not only come with confidence but also with motivation to regain their former glory.

Sam Groth won’t return for Australia, but they have Thanasi Kokkinakis to cover up for him together with Jordan Thompson and world doubles No.2 John Peers.

Belgium took down Italy the last time out and will field the same group of players composed of Steve Darcis, Ruben Bemelmans, Joris de Loore and David Goffin. However, they need to step up on the singles events if they want to stay competitive.

It will be interesting to see the possible meeting between Goffin and Kyrgios, though the Belgians certainly won’t have their hopes up with the former coming off an injury from the recent US Open.

Not to mention that Goffin has never beaten the Aussie World No.20 in all of their three meetings before.

France vs Serbia

France want to win and undoubtedly won’t hold back when they face a depleted Serbia squad at Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille.

The Frenchmen have the advantage in both the singles and doubles matches, with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lucas Pouille and highly-rated doubles stars Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert leading the way.

Hence, it will be a difficult task for playing captain Nenad Zimonjic and his men to pull off an upset. Besides, no player from the The odds could have been different for the Serbians, especially after their quarterfinal victory over Spain. Nonetheless, following Novak Djokovic’s injury and Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic’s fitness issues, they were left with no other choice but to revamp their squad and go younger.

France are tipped to win it all with outright odds at 1.65 while Serbia are at 6.00. Zimonjic has the talent to spice up the doubles event, but the difference in singles talent is huge and could spell the end for the visitors.
