ATP: 5 Things to Know About Rafael Nadal

countdown banner

Rafael Nadal is no doubt one of the best there is in the sport of tennis especially with 19 Grand Slams to his name.

He is one-third of the mighty triumvirate alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic – the group who has dominated the ATP for the better part of the decade.

Lately, the Spanish international has been working hard to get back into tip-top shape.

And with around six weeks left before the US Open, Nadal announced recently that he will be hosting a live event sometime next week. It will be an interactive live event entitled #GetRafaMoving.

Rafael Nadal is the defending champion in the US Open after winning it last year against Daniil Medvedev. But while his ATP 2020 odds of repeating are high, it remains to be seen on how his full schedule would look like especially with the coronavirus pandemic.

Before we get into the thick of things, allow SBOBET to feature one of the best to ever do it – focusing his life on and off the tennis court.

He is a huge fan of football

In an alternate universe, Rafael Nadal would’ve been a big football star if he didn’t choose tennis.

His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal was a player before for Barcelona, RCD Mallorca, and the Spanish national team, so it’s safe to say that the young Rafael was exposed to the sport early on.

As he tried the two sports, his father made him choose between them and he eventually chose tennis.

Rafael Nadal may have built a successful career off of tennis, but he still remains a huge football fan to this day. He is admittedly a Real Madrid fan and he continues to support the sport in his home country.

Only one can wonder on how things would have turned out if Rafael Nadal committed to football instead of tennis. But there’s no doubt that he’ll be successful in either given his athletic gifts and unrelenting work ethic.

Rafael Nadal has a heavenly body

Normally you’d find commercial products, places, or other similar things named to someone of Rafael Nadal’s stature, but did you know that an asteroid was named after him?

In 2003, when an asteroid was discovered in the Observatorio Astronomico de Mallorca, it was named after him by the International Astronomical Union.

The decision for the asteroid to be named after him was requested by the observatory given Nadal’s massive contributions to his hometown.

The asteroid is called 128036 Rafaelnadal. Plus, it is funny to know that he is a big fan of “Dragon Ball” – an anime series that deals with the multiverse and its deities.

He does not lift weights

Rafael Nadal is one of the fittest tennis players out there capable of producing so many ATP 2020 highlights, but it is surprising to know that he doesn’t lift that much weights.

Instead, the Mallorca native does a ton of bodyweight exercises that focuses on strengthening the core and improving his mobility.

“My body is how it is. I really never worked much doing a lot of weights on the gym. I do more prevention, and of course, I do other things that I have to do,” said Nadal.

“I never worked too hard with that weights. The most important thing is to feel myself strong enough to hold the pains that I normally have,” he added.

Rafael Nadal hates cheese

Rafael Nadal, who hails from the land of tapas, apparently doesn’t like queso.

“I don’t eat cheese. I never eat cheese in all my life because I don’t like it at all,” said Nadal.

Moreover, the Spaniard bared that he follows a strict diet which includes limiting his red meat intake.

“I prefer fish. That’s all. No, but I don’t have big problems with diet. I eat what I want to eat. And, of course, the diet is important for life and for stay healthy,” said Nadal.

Especially at this stage of his pro career, the 34-year-old would prefer eating leaner sources of protein such as fish and chicken to get the same amount of calories he needs minus the excess fat.

With his training regimen and strict diet, it’s no secret as to why Nadal remains on top of his game.

He loves to give back to his hometown

But for all the success he’s had on his career, Rafael Nadal stays true to his roots as he gives back to charity.

He created the Fundacion Rafa Nadal to help raise social awareness along with providing educational assistance to the youth.

Rafael Nadal would also contribute in other philanthropic projects such as helping the victims of the Mallorca floods back in 2018.

Rafael Nadal’s body of work should serve as an inspiration for everyone out there. While his tennis career is quite amazing in itself, his contributions off the court should never be forgotten as well.
