Heineken Chinese Grand Prix

Mercedes will be hard-pressed to win the Chinese Grand Prix after Ferrari have built a decent lead in the rankings and betting websites. Their superb engines coupled with fantastic driving from Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen saw them taking the early lead.

However, fans know that to bet online against Mercedes is to flirt with defeat. Everyone and their mother knows that Lewis Hamilton, with 1.50 outright odds seeing him as the winner, is hard to beat at the Shanghai International Circuit. The only reason Hamilton didn’t win in Bahrain was that he started at ninth place. Should everything go swimmingly in qualifying, I don’t see Hamilton not winning in Shanghai.

Vettel, slapped with a somewhat shocking 4.00, will need to exert a lot of effort if he wishes to win his first Chinese Grand Prix since 2009. He needs to make the most of the high-speed track to start at the pole and keep Hamilton at bay with the right pit strategies.

Of course, the two leading drivers aren’t the only men that the Chinese crowd should watch out for. Fernando Alonso (81.00) has won in China in 2005 and 2013. Now that McLaren’s improved engines are helping them compete, it won’t be surprising to see Alonso race for the win.

Raikkonen (10.00) and Valtteri Bottas (6.00) will also be ones to watch for in the race. They will continue to do what they do best and push the limits for their respective opponents. Given their performances thus far, it’s hard not to see them competing for first place.

Daniel Ricciardo (21.00) and Max Verstappen (21.00) may have fallen off in the F1 radar, but the two won’t just bow out of the contest and race comfortably amongst the chasing pack. The Red Bull hierarchy is probably working on a remedy to make them competitive again at this very moment. Punters would have to steer clear of the two until that upgrade arrives, though.

The hot Shanghai sun will bear witness to some exciting overtakes and motorsport action. While it may be easy to say who will likely win in this race, nothing is ever certain until all the red lights go off. We’re bound to see some exciting driving in China!
