It’s lucky number 6 for happy Hamilton!

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton won his sixth Canadian Grand Prix, and he did it convincingly, never putting doubts to the result since the start of the race.

Sports betting pundits knew that it will be difficult for anyone to turn around the betting odds against Hamilton who took the pole position on Saturday. And sure enough, the British driver did not disappoint as he cruised through with a dominant live betting display and took the checkers 70 laps later.

Moreover, making the day extra delightful for Mercedes, Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas grabbed second to complete an incredible one-two finish for the Silver Arrows. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, meanwhile, ended third while no Ferrari driver made it to the podium.

Many were expecting Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to put Hamilton to the test. However, that battle never materialised with the German ace getting bogged down in the first corner where the chasing pack converged.

It was an unfortunate situation for Vettel as he was forced to pit for repairs after Max Verstappen, who shot past him, clipped his front wing and damaged the floor of the Ferrari.

Vettel tried his best to mount a comeback in the race, but all he could do is make it to fourth.

On the other hand, Verstappen surged from fifth to second after overtaking Vettel, and he briefly challenged Hamilton for the lead. Though, that didn’t last long as the Dutchman’s car suffered an engine failure in Turn 2 of Lap 11 – an opportunity that Bottas took to get to number two.

Hamilton then continued to extend his advantage, and all that’s left midway through the race was the fight for the runner-up places.

“I had my first win here and my first pole,” Hamilton said. “So to repeat it again 10 years later is incredibly special.”

It’s a pretty special day for home hero Lance Stroll as well. The rookie finished ninth and became just the third Canadian driver to score points in F1.

Hamilton now has six wins in 10 races in Canada, just one shy of Michael Schumacher’s record at the circuit. He also cut Vettel’s lead to the drivers’ standing to just 12 points as they both have three wins each this season.

For the Constructors’ championship, Mercedes surpassed Ferrari for the lead with 222 points, eight above their close rivals.

Next up is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit.
