2nd Test: South Africa vs India
South Africa takes on India in the second Test at SuperSport Park in Centurian, already 1-0 up and determined to topple the best team in the world.
Pace bowler Vernon Philander bowled the Proteas to victory with six wickets in the first Test in Cape Town to put the hosts in charge. And while the pre-match handicap betting offer did point to a home win, it looked highly unlikely for much of the game.
The live betting market was certainly on a rollercoaster on a final day in which 18 wickets fell, including Philander’s six, which blasted the tourists away. India needed a modest total of 208 to strike an early blow but fell for just 135 as Philander and his pace bowling colleagues Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada set about them. The rapid Rabada has now taken top spot in the ICC test rankings from Jimmy Anderson and he was at his menacing best, taking five wickets in the match.
The groundsman had prepared a green pitch to favour the quickies and frustrate the Indian spinners, and only Kumar bowled with real conviction for the visitors. Virat Kohli will hope his side can bat in Centurian as well as HH Pandya did in the first match, the all-rounder hitting an impressive 93 from 95 balls; and also that his stars can lose their annoying habit of dropping catches.
If they fail, then the Indians could be staring at a first series defeat in nine series. The Proteas, second in the world rankings, are ready to pounce.
