That newly promoted Huddersfield are only three points behind them speaks volumes for the success of David Wagner.
However, he will know only three clubs have scored fewer than Huddersfield’s 18 so far this term.
Stoke City vs Newcastle United
Stoke were ripped apart by Chelsea, perhaps not surprising given their defensive absentees.
Both clubs are on the fringes of the drop zone and badly need victories.
This could be tense.
WEEK 22 TUESDAY:
Everton vs Manchester United
It’s unlikely Romelu Lukaku will be involved against his old club given he was stretchered off less than 48 hours before this one kicks-off.
It’s very likely Wayne Rooney will start against the club where he became a legend.
United need the points. Will Everton have one eye on their FA Cup tie four days after this one?
WEEK 22 WEDNESDAY:
Southampton vs Crystal Palace
Despite a fine point at Old Trafford, Southampton are in real danger of getting sucked into a scrap.
Palace are just glad to be out of the bottom three where they have been for virtually all of the campaign.
Can the new year spark a turnaround in fortunes for both clubs?
Swansea City vs Tottenham Hotspur
Few saw Swansea’s late win at Watford coming.
Their remarkable fightback lifted them off the bottom of the table and gave a perfect start for new manager Carlos Carvalhal.
Now, however, they are up for a real test against Spurs and the man who simply can’t stop scoring, Harry Kane.
West Ham United vs West Bromwich Albion
A real ‘six-pointer’ to begin the New Year with.
At this stage of the campaign, I am struggling to see both sides surviving, although I think one of them will.
Which club can stay in the top flight may look back on this fixture as key. It’s time for the new men at the helm, David Moyes and Alan Pardew, to pull a rabbit out of the hat.
Manchester City vs Watford
Watford have been beaten 6-0 and 5-0 by City during their last two encounters.
What price on them keeping the Premier League’s dominant force out this time?
