Borussia Dortmund 6-1 Borussia Monchengladbach
There’s history between these two teams, but there’s no doubt that Dortmund are living for the present.
Of course, the Borussen Derby – the battle for the name of “Borussia” – isn’t as heated as other derbies. However, both teams have fought out a lot of close and interesting football games, including Gladbach’s 12-0 win over BVB in 1978 which still stands as the biggest win in Bundesliga history.
However, times have changed now. While Gladbach are just aiming to get a foothold in European competition, Dortmund are contending for the title.
And BVB showed that difference between them and Gladbach, as they romped to victory in a live betting affair that was never really close.
Undefeated in five before the match, Dortmund were already favourites in most betting websites to come out on top. And they did so in style, thrashing the visitors with three goals each in both intervals.
Maximilian Philipp, who joined BVB from Freiburg this summer, started the rout with a quick-fire double in the first half, with the opener a neat volley from a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pass.
The 23-year-old then provided an assist at the stroke of halftime, teeing up Aubameyang from the centre for the first of what turned out to be a hat-trick.
Aubameyang stayed hot and scored his second four minutes after the restart before completing his triple at the hour. Julian Weigl added their sixth goal on 79 minutes to put Dieter Hecking’s men to the sword.
Lars Stindl, meanwhile, scored a second-half consolation, which was Dortmund’s first conceded goal in the competition.
Dortmund stayed atop the Bundesliga table with 16 points, two points clear of close competitors Hoffenheim, who also won their game against Schalke 2-0.
Defending champions and BVB’s biggest title rival Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are three points behind the leaders after Wolfsburg came back from two goal down to secure a 2-2 stalemate.
On the other hand, following their midweek defeats, RB Leipzig and Mainz returned to winning ways with victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha BSC, respectively.
At the bottom of the table, Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg remained in the drop zone as they fought a goalless draw at Weserstadion.
