Then as the Sky Blues looked the more likely to see the game through, disaster struck on 77 minutes when Tiemoue Bakayoko found himself unmarked to be able to head home and take Monaco through on away goals.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 (4-2 on agg.) Bayer Leverkusen
A stalemate at the Vicente Calderon was just fine for Atletico after winning the away leg with four away goals. Leverkusen were much improved from the first leg but this particular mountain was far too high for the Germans to climb.
