It’s Snow Joke for the Old Lady as Cool Napoli Win Big

countdown banner

Napoli pulled four points clear at the top of Serie A thanks to a thumping win in Cagliari and a blizzard in Turin.

Heavy snow put paid to Juventus’ home game with Atalanta, and with it the Bianconeri’s chance to keep up the pressure on the leaders. And Napoli made no mistake in a game sports betting pundits fully expected them to win.

It’s a turn of events which leaves Maurizzio Sarris’ team marginal favourites on most betting websites to win the Scudetto.

Elsewhere, on a weekend of high drama, there was plenty of action for football betting fans as two of the bottom three won to increase the tension in the relegation battle.

Napoli ran out 0-5 winners against Cagliari after the hosts gave as good as they got in the opening exchanges. But as Napoli began to ease through the gears, the breakthrough came on the half hour when Jose Callejon finished clinically in the bottom left corner.

It was game over, before the break, when Dries Mertens bagged his 16th league goal of the season. Marek Hamsik made it three on 61 minutes, then Lorenzo Insigne slotted home a penalty before Mario Rui fired home a free-kick to round off a great weekend in Naples.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored twice and Ciro Immobile (who else) added another as third-placed Lazio won 0-3 at Sassuolo, a result which leaves the hosts facing a relegation scrap.

Inter stay fourth after two quick-fire goals gave Luciano Spalletti’s team a 2-0 win at home to bottom club Benevento. Milan Skriniar put the hosts ahead after Benevento had held on for 66 minutes, but it only took three more for Andrea Ranocchia to double the lead.

Milan won the big game in Rome, defeating Roma 0-2 thanks to second-half goals from Patrick Cutrone and Davide Calabria, keeping the Rossoneri in the Europa hunt while dropping Roma to fifth. Sampdoria stay sixth after a 2-1 win at home to Udinese.

At the bottom end, SPAL kept their hopes of survival alive with a thrilling 2-3 win in the six-pointer away to Crotone. Alberto Paloschi scored the crucial goal to make it 1-3 on the hour, while Ante Budimir grabbed a brace in vain for the hosts. SPAL climb to within a point of Crotone.

Verona did their chances no harm either, surprising Torino 2-1 and moving two points from safety after Mattia Valoti was twice on target.

Elsewhere, there was a 2-0 win for Bologna over Genoa; and Fiorentina beat Chievo 1-0.
