Serie A: The Top Transfer Targets From Italian Top-Flight

countdown banner

Serie A has always been a hotbed of talent, as numerous stars have come and gone from old to young.

But compared to the other European leagues, there’s not much going on in Italy at this time of the year, although interest in their top players isn’t fading anytime soon.

In recent years, Serie A clubs have been more creative with their transfer strategy, owing to financial constraints in most cases.

Most of these teams would (and might) eventually sell their players, especially with foreign clubs knocking on their door with inflated transfer fees that they simply couldn’t refuse.

So, without further ado, read on below as SBOTOP lists the top players who are gaining a lot of attention in the January transfer window.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is one of the hottest commodities in the transfer market today. He has been in fine form this season, notching 12 goals and three assists in 14 league matches for Napoli.

His current contract is due to expire in 2025, and the Nigerian international is said to be happy in Naples. However, knowing Napoli’s thrifty owners, they might let go of Osimhen if foreign clubs are willing to meet their huge demands.

Napoli want big money for Osimhen, if ever. Reports claim that the Naples outfit wants a fee in the region of £133-M and will not accept anything less.

Osimhen has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs, namely Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United. However, there have been zero concrete negotiations as of now.

It’s unlikely that he’ll move elsewhere this month, but expect his stock to skyrocket if he maintains his form and stays healthy throughout this season.

Rafael Leao

Like Osimhen, Rafael Leao has been linked to a host of foreign clubs too. The 23-year-old winger is one of Serie A’s best players today, leading AC Milan in the scoring charts with nine goals and seven assists.

There’s been a lot of speculation about his future with the Rossoneri since his contract expires in June 2024. He has yet to sign a new contract with the club, raising concerns among Milan fans that another promising young player, like Gianluigi Donnarumma in 2021 and Franck Kessie last summer, will depart soon.

Rafael Leao has already scored eight Serie A goals this season for AC Milan

Manchester United are keen on bringing Leao into their ranks to further bolster their attacking corps, while Chelsea were also linked with a move for him, although they’ve recently acquired Mykhailo Mudryk for a huge fee.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Leao should continue to produce Serie A 2023 highlights for AC Milan. However, their Serie A 2023 odds of successfully defending their title are dwindling by the week since Napoli are unstoppable at the moment.

Sofyan Amrabat

Sofyan Amrabat has been on everyone’s radar after starring for Morocco at the World Cup. He is valued at around €50-M, which is a good price for clubs that are looking to reinforce their midfield.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a winter move to teams from the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1, although Fiorentina chiefs are hesitant to sell him this month.

Liverpool, in particular, are in hot pursuit since they’re eager to refresh their midfield core. Jurgen Klopp reportedly had a dialogue with Amrabat’s representatives after the World Cup.

Although not their first choice, Amrabat should fit in seamlessly in Klopp’s system since he’s a rugged and hardworking defencive midfielder.

It’s also important to note that Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner’s contracts are expiring on June 1.

Milan Skriniar

There’s a growing pessimism at San Siro because Milan Skriniar has yet to accept a new contract with Inter Milan. The 27-year-old’s current deal will expire at the end of this season, and if both parties can’t agree to new terms, then he might leave on a free transfer.

Skriniar actually almost left Inter Milan last summer amid interest from PSG, but the Nerazzurri eventually decided not to sell him.

The Slovakian centre-back is having yet another productive campaign this season, so Inter Milan are braced to receive bids for his services. PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Skriniar.

Should Inter Milan sell Skriniar now, that would allow them to keep hold of their starting right-back Denzel Dumfries, who is also a sought-after asset in the transfer market.

Dumfries is also having a solid year for the Nerazzurri. The Dutch wing-back has tallied two goals and two assists in 22 games played across all competitions this term.
