The summer is shaping up to be quite an eventful one in Serie A, with potential shakeups in store among the top clubs. Several of the league’s top stars – including a trio of young strikers – are being linked with big moves outside Italy.
And while a number of Serie A’s shining stars are being touted with moves to the Premier League, a couple of big-name veterans defenders could be headed the other way.
Read on below as SBOTOP rounds up the latest Serie A 2023 news and rumours surrounding Serie A as the summer transfer window nears.
PSG look to outbid Premier League giants for Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen is without a doubt the hottest striker on this summer’s transfer market. The 24-year-old is set to win the Scudetto with Napoli, as well as the Capocannoiere as Serie A’s top scorer.
Osimhen’s performances have attracted the attention of the top Premier League clubs, with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly at the front of the queue.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are apparently poised to outbid the Blues and Reds as they are ready to offer €150 million to Napoli for Osimhen.
Current PSG manager Christophe Galtier is quite familiar with Osimhen as he coached the Nigerian during his lone season in Ligue 1 with Lille. However, Galtier’s position as PSG manager past this season remains in some doubt.
Similarly, the futures of top PSG stars such as Lionel Messi and Neymar are also quite cloudy, so the French giants could very well be in need of a new strike partner for Kylian Mbappe come the summer.
Nicolo Barella linked with Liverpool
After dropping out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Jude Bellingham, Liverpool have been linked with a new top midfielder in Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
Liverpool are in need of a major rebuild in midfield this summer, and while Trent Alexander-Arnold is excelling in a hybrid midfield role of late, Barella would be a welcome addition to that unit, which needs an infusion of youth and energy as the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and Fabinho age.
Barella has been instrumental in Inter’s run to the Champions League semi-finals as he scored in both legs of their quarter-final win over Benfica. He has also contributed 5 goals and 6 assists in their Serie A campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund, Dusan Vlahovic attracting Premier League interest
Aside from Osimhen, a couple of other young strikers in Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic are on the radar of top Premier League sides.
The 20-year-old Hojlund has had a fine debut season at Atalanta with 7 goals in 26 matches, and has reportedly drawn the interest of Manchester United and Real Madrid, among other top clubs.
Meanwhile, Juventus are reportedly considering cashing in on Dusan Vlahovic just over a year after spending €70 million to sign him from Fiorentina. The 23-year-old has had a disappointing full season with the Old Lady, scoring just 8 goals in 22 appearances.
But despite his struggles, Vlahovic still has no shortage of suitors. Premier League leaders Arsenal, who missed out on Vlahovic, are a potential destination, while Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Harry Maguire headed to Italy?
Amid the speculation surrounding many Serie A stars potentially leaving the league, there are a couple of big names who could be coming to Italy.
In Kalidou Koulibaly’s case, he could be returning after one disastrous season in Chelsea, with Juventus reportedly planning to bring the 31-year-old back to Italy.
Koulibaly spent eight largely successful seasons at Napoli, where he made the Serie A Team of the Year four times and was named Serie A Best Defender in 2018-19.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire is reportedly open to moving to Serie A as his playing time with the Premier League giants has shrunk significantly this season.
Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan have reportedly shown interest in the 30-year-old, although due to his high wages, those teams may only be able to afford to sign the Manchester United defender on loan.
