Serie A is Poised for a Dramatic Finish

Inter Milan were recently crowned the 2024 Scudetto winners, but that doesn’t mean that the Serie A season has come to a close. The Italian top flight table boasts a tight race in the upper echelon, where teams like Milan and Juventus are still in a race to be the best of the rest, while clubs like Bologna, Roma, and Atalanta continue their efforts to finish the season with the best outcome they can muster.

There are still plenty of narratives that will ultimately unfold at the tail end of the season, so read more below as SBOTOP gives a comprehensive preview of some of the pivotal matchups the football world needs to pay close attention to.

Roma vs Juventus

First up, the clash between Roma and Juventus poses as the brightest on the marquee for the next slate of matches in the Italian top flight. Juventus are in a two-horse race with Milan to be the second-best outfit in the 2024 season. Currently, Juve have failed to tally a win in their last three games. Luckily for the Old Lady, Milan have also been winless in their last three, keeping the distance between the two rivals pretty much the same.

Juve need six points to overtake Milan in the standings, but it’ll be easier said than done, as they’ll need to face the likes of Roma and Bologna in their last few bouts this season.

Elsewhere, Roma’s Europa League credentials are under threat by Atalanta, who are just two points behind the standings. Atalanta’s back-to-back wins definitely put the pressure on Roma, and it doesn’t help I Giallorossi that they’ll need to overcome the likes of Juventus, Atalanta, and Milan to keep their European dreams alive.

Roma have been faring well in the top flight as of late, losing just once in their last five, garnering eight points to boot. But despite their spirited efforts this late into the season, the Serie A 2024 betting odds have them as the slight underdogs for their matchup against the Old Lady at Stadio Olimpico.

Milan vs Genoa

Milan are closing in on being the best of the rest in Serie A this season if they manage to fend off Genoa at San Siro. With Inter already crowned the 2024 Serie A champions this season, the battle for second rages on, with AC Milan leading the way.

They are currently five points clear of Juventus, but they can inch closer to second place with a win against middle-table staple Genoa.

Milan have been winless in their last three, failing to widen their lead over Juventus. Their 3-3 draw against Sassuolo came as a surprise, as the relegation candidates suddenly pulled out one of their best Serie A 2024 results and were able to pacify Milan’s march to the podium.

“We tried absolutely everything. We scored three goals and created many more chances. Nobody could have complained if we’d scored five or six today,” Milan boss Stefano Pioli exclaimed after their fumble against Sassuolo.

Milan’s next two games after their headscratcher against Sassuolo were more reasonable, as they fell to their archrivals Inter (1-2) then tallied a scoreless draw against Juventus.

They’ll have a great opportunity to turn things around when they host Genoa in front of a passionate crowd at San Siro.

Bologna vs Torino

Bologna have been playing superbly as of late, staying unbeaten in their last five and emerging as one of the hottest teams in the top flight. But despite their impressive Serie A 2024 results, Bologna’s Champions League credentials are under threat by Roma, who are just four points behind.

Luckily for them, they’ll face a struggling Torino, who have failed to score a single goal since April 7, when they fell short against Empoli 3-2. This comes as great news for Bologna’s first third, who has been a worthy bastion of defence in the past few weeks, giving up just two goals in the month of April and tallying four clean sheets in their last five top flight bouts to boot.

If Bologna can capitalise and get all three points against Torino, i Rossoblu can take some pressure off their shoulders and put their feet up until they march to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to face off against Napoli. It’s imperative that i Rossoblu garner all three points against Torino, as they’ll face tougher adversaries Napoli and Juventus to end their campaign before they face Genoa for their season finale.
