Serie A: Inter are in a League of Their Own

countdown banner

Bologna looked like they were the toughest adversary for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter in Serie A for quite some time now. Bologna brought their A game against Inter yesterday, as they were the outfit to push the tempo, dominate possession, and have more chances at the goal.

It actually seemed like the passionate fans at Renato Dall’Ara were going home with smiles from ear to ear with three points in their back pockets, or so it seemed.

It only took Inter five attempts at Bologna’s goal to secure the match, and it was Yann Aurel Bisseck who struck the opener and the only goal of the night in minute 37. Despite having the lead, I Nerazzurri played most of the match from a defencive stance, as Bologna kept up the pressure and managed to make 19 total attempts to equalise the game.

Inter came in as the favourites against the home side Bologna in the SBOTOP Serie A 2024 betting odds, but it seemed like they were the ones with their backs against the wall. Nonetheless, the league leaders came out of the scrappy game as the winners, stealing the game from the dominant Bologna with a 0-1 score line.

“We maintain the gap from those who are following us. We fully deserved the lead in the first half, then Bologna proved why they are in their current position,” Inzaghi exclaimed.

With this win, I Nerazzurri are now 16 points clear from AC Milan at the summit of the league standings and are poised to win the league title as early as next month. I Nerazzurri are still a long way from treble contention, but their dominance in the Italian league should be headlining Serie A 2024 news stories every matchweek.

Napoli’s costly draw against Torino

Despite their tepid season, Napoli are still gunning for European competition next season, especially now that they got that “new manager bounce” after appointing Francesco Calzona as the new man at the helm.

Napoli have remained unbeaten since Calzona took the reins, but their defence has been costing them much-needed wins. Gli Azzurri have tallied a draw in three of their last five, but they could’ve garnered a few more points if they’d managed to keep clean sheets.

The problem with their defence was magnified during their clash with Torino at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Calzona’s outfit claimed the opening goal thanks to a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stunner, but Napoli immediately crumbled and conceded a goal just three minutes after claiming the lead. Torino’s Portuguese striker Antonio Sanabria channelled his inner Ronaldo and attempted a high-flying bicycle kick that slotted past the man between the sticks.

Napoli had to settle for a 1-1 draw and went home with just one point. Thanks to another draw, Napoli are still a few games away from European contention, and it doesn’t help that they have Inter as their next opponents in Serie A.

Calzona will march with his men to Spain, where they’ll face off against Xavi’s Barcelona for the return leg of their last-16 clash in the Champions League. It’ll be interesting to see if Calzona will make adjustments to his first third when they go up against the illustrious club from Catalonia.

Rossoneri joins their rivals at the top of the table

It’s been a great week of football if you’re a Milanese, as the Italian top flight boasts a Milan one-two in the league standings. Thanks to Rossoneri’s slim 1-0 win against the struggling Empoli, Stefano Pioli and his men have managed to overtake Juventus and claim the second seed in the league table.

Milan’s golden boy, Christian Pulisic, scored the only goal of their match against Empoli. The 25-year-old American broke the deadlock in the latter part of the first half with a left-footed strike. That opener was enough for Captain America and the rest of his teammates to secure back-to-back top-flight wins and temporarily claim second place in Serie A.

Rossoneri may have claimed the second spot in the league standings, but they’re not out of the woods just yet. It will take a herculean effort from any club to catch up to Inter at this point of the season, and Milan are just babysitting a one-point lead over Juventus in the standings. Juventus and Bologna are well within striking distance of Milan in the standings, so Stefano Pioli and his men can’t afford to take their feet off the pedal just yet.

Milan are keen to extend their winning streak in the top flight as they face a couple of midfield teams in their next few bouts. Their next great challenge will be against Inter for a patented Milan Derby on April 21. Inter could actually clinch the Serie A title with a win during their impending Milan Derby, so expect a fiery Rossoneri during that clash.
