AC Milan are set to host Verona at San Siro this Saturday afternoon. Stefano Pioli and his team are aiming to bounce back after being humiliated by Inter in the Milan derby. The Serie A table-leading Inter humbled Milan with a 5-1 victory led by Mkhitartan’s world-class performance. 

With three wins in their opening three games, the Rossoneri proved to be a threat in Serie A, as they usually are. It won’t be a walk in the park against a hungry Verona squad coming to town, but Milan are keen to get back to their winning ways and stay in the top half of the league table.

Verona showed good form in their first two matches of the season. Given that they got those wins against a struggling Roma squad and a winless Empoli, it’s still a good sign for a club that were almost relegated last Serie A season.

They seem to have lost momentum after their first two wins, as they lost to Sassuolo 3-1, then ended their fixture with Bologna in a 0-0 draw.

Going into San Siro, Verona are looking to garner much-needed points to stay afloat in the Serie A standings.

Verona’s resurgence after almost getting relegated last year

Hellas Verona had a disappointing Seria A 2022-23 campaign. They were almost relegated, which would have ended their four consecutive seasons in top-flight.

They secured their top-flight berth in the 2023-24 season with a 3-1 win over Spezia in the relegation playoff. It was a frightening sight for Marco Baroni and his team, but they’ve risen to the occasion and showed the football world that they could hang with Italy’s best and actually be competitive.

It seems like Verona are off to a decent start to their campaign. So far, their Serie A 2023 results are respectable, getting a quick 6-point launch pad to start their season. After a draw against Bologna in their last game, they are now floating in the top half of the league table at the ninth spot.

Getting three points against Milan this Saturday will do wonders for Marco Baroni and his squad. It will give them much-needed cushioning to stay in the top half of the standings and set them apart from the crowded Serie A table.

Back-to-back woes for Milan

The Rossoneri are starting to show signs of slowing down after a terrific start in Serie A. They blazed through their first three matches, scoring a total of eight goals en route to nine points in the league table.

After a great start to their season, Milan came back to earth when they faced Inter in the Milan derby. Most of the football world expected the derby to be a close game, given that both teams were in superb form going into the match. But Inter proved that they are the better club by demolishing their arch-rivals. AC Milan stayed competitive all throughout the game and managed to score a goal.

Their next outing came in the Champions League group stages. Milan was set to face off against Newcastle, which are considered by many to be the weakest club in the “Group of Death”. This means going against Newcastle was their best chance to score wins in the group stages, given that the other two teams in the Group of Death are PSG and Borussia Dortmund.

Milan failed to bounce back after their humbling defeat against Inter, as they failed to triumph over Newcastle. They ended the match with a 0-0 score line. To Milan’s defence, they were in control the whole game, but they met disappointment after several legitimate chances to score.

Their match against Verona will be a great opportunity for Milan to regain their confidence and their form. The Rossoneri have a tough October ahead of them, so they should take every opportunity to build their poise and get back to their winning ways as early as possible.

These clubs had faced each other 17 times before, with AC Milan bagging the majority of the wins. Verona had only won three times against Milan. Verona had won none of the last nine matches against AC Milan.

Between the two teams, they have netted a total of 53 goals when facing off against one another. Milan had tallied 33 goals, while Verona netted 20.

Interestingly enough, Verona had never won a match in Stadio San Siro against AC Milan, but have managed to tally a draw four times.

Betting Tip

Milan are coming into this match as the heavy favourites. The SBOTOP Serie A betting odds 2023 have reasonably priced AC Milan at 1.36. Going for this line might be the most sensible thing to do, but there isn’t much value in it. The draw price is at 4.30, which may be a good line given that all the times these two teams ended in a draw, it was at Stadio San Siro.

The last four games between these two sides have been modestly high-scoring ones, with four per game on average. The lowest scoring output was a 2-1 Milan victory at home during last season’s Serie A campaign, which is why we’re expecting a plenty of goals this Saturday.

Both teams have shown great form at the start of the season, and given their recent head-to-head matches, the line of over 2.50 at 1.78 is a safe, but still exciting line to bet on.
