Serie A: Form Teams Meet at The San Siro

AC Milan vs Atalanta

Milan is the place to be on Friday night for a mouth-watering clash between the two best sides in the league, on current form.

Serie A: Milan vs Atalanta pitches fifth against second, at the time of writing, I Rossoneri is on a three match winning streak and in good shape to qualify for Europe, while La Dea is still in with a slight chance of winning the Scudetto.

It’s a short trip for Gian Piero Gasperini’s troops to make to Milan, and they will give their hosts a stern test, but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic hitting form I Rossoneri won’t fear the battle. The Milan vs Atalanta betting odds give them the edge but they will have to be at their best to come out on top.

Talking Points

Pioli has Milan rocking

Stefano Pioli is expecting AC Milan to celebrate victory against Atalanta at San Siro

Former Inter boss Stefano Pioli has transformed Milan since his arrival, back in October, after Marco Giampaolo’s disastrous stint at the San Siro. And they have been in superb form over the past month. A 2-2 draw away to Napoli were the only points Milan has dropped in the last six games and they have beaten Roma, Lazio and Juventus in some style, scoring 25 goals since the restart.

Ibrahimovic bagged a brace in Milan’s 2-1 win away to Sassuolo on Tuesday, while Ante Rebic and Hakan Calhanoglu provide more firepower, supported by the raiding runs of attacking wingback Theo Hernandez, who arrived from Real Madrid last summer.

I Rossoneri are in a three-way fight with Roma and Napoli for places, with just three points separating them from Napoli in 7th while their two rivals have a game in hand. That race is going to go down to the wire so Pioli’s team will aim to keep their momentum going against a side in top form.

Atalanta hot shots

With 95 goals in the league this season La Dea are top scorers in Serie A. Gasperini’s men have 21 more goals than Inter and 23 more than Juventus.

Just as their opponents have, Atalanta outplayed both Juventus and Lazio recently, drawing with I Bianconeri and beating former title hopefuls Lazio. Luis Muriel scored his 18th goal of the season to earn his team a 1-0 win over Bologna on Monday night and, alongside Duvan Zapata who has 17 goals, he is in a lethal partnership.

Slovenian forward Josip Ilicic has 15 goals, but he may be sidelined with injury, and if that’s the case he will be a miss. La Dea are in the Champions League quarter finals after they hammered Valencia 8-4 on aggregate in the Round of 16, Ilicic scoring four in the second leg, proving he can rip apart any side.

Zapata has reportedly been the subject of a 30M Euro enquiry from Juventus this week so he will be keen to impress.

While the Scudetto will likely prove to be a step too far, second place is very much on the cards for Atalanta and these hot shots will be determined to reach 100 goals for the season. They need five from three games, and with Parma and Inter Milan still to play who would bet against them?

History

The head to head Milan vs Atalanta results have seen periods of success for both teams, with Milan winning 14 in total to Atalanta’s ten; while there have been 11 draws.

Last time out Atalanta thrashed I Rossoneri 5-0, thanks to goals from Papu Gomez, Mario Pasalic, Muriel and a brace from Ilicic.

The previous four games were better contests as each side won one and there were two draws.

And recent form is impressive in both cases. Milan have won five and drawn one of the last six while Atalanta have won four and drawn two.

Betting Tip

??
AC Milan vs Atalanta First Half Over 1.50 @ 2.08
July 25, 3:45 (GMT+8)

This is going to be a hard fought game according to the latest SBOBET odds which place the spread at around a quarter of a goal, with Atalanta available at odds of 2.02 with a -0.25 handicap while I Rossoneri are at 1.91 with that +0.25 advantage.

I think there will be goals in this game. There have been 44 in total in the combined last six games for the two teams; an average of 3.67, so for an alternative bet you can get 1.84 on over 3.25 goals.

Milan will be keen to exact revenge for the 5-0 drubbing they suffered in Atalanta, but Muriel, Zapata and co will be looking for more of the same.
