Well, we’re five games in and it’s been a great start in the Italian top tier as Napoli have thrown down the gauntlet to serial Serie A champions Juventus.
Before a ball was kicked in anger the betting odds pointed to another league triumph for the Old Lady, but Napoli in pushing the pace and the Milan clubs aren’t far behind.
WEEK 6 SATURDAY:
AS Roma vs Udinese
Roma is up to seventh having had back to back wins, scoring seven unanswered goals while Udinese languishes in 16th after two defeats. Both teams have been free-scoring so far, with a single game each under 2.5 goals. You can get 1.90 on under 3.25 goals if you think that trend may end with a clinical home win.
WEEK 6 SUNDAY:
SPAL vs Napoli
Napoli thumped Lazio in midweek 1-4, and the handicap betting offer of an away win against SPAL suggests the league leaders will continue their march. Napoli are available at 1.88 to triumph, with a -1.75 goals handicap, and having scored ten goals in the last two they now face a Spal side which has lost its last three games, all 2-0.
Juventus vs Torino
So the Bianconeri need to win to keep up and, having just beaten Fiorentina 1-0, they aren’t as free-scoring as their rivals. Paulo Dybala is top scoring though, with eight, and Max Allegri will hope he gets some assistance from Gonzalo Higuain as they face fifth placed Torino who are still unbeaten.
Sampdoria vs AC Milan
Milan sit fourth but have a tough task on a visit to Sampdoria. The home team have made a great start to the new campaign, unbeaten and with eight points from four games. Striker Fabio Quagliarella has been on target four times already and the odds on a draw at 3.35 look tempting.
Inter Milan vs Genoa
Mauro Icardi was on the mark for his sixth goal of the season as Inter drew 1-1 at Bologna in midweek to stay in third, and the title challengers will expect to beat 17th placed Genoa, still without a win.
Hellas Verona vs Lazio
Sixth-placed Lazio had a reality check in midweek as Napoli showed there was a gulf in class while beating their Roman hosts. But Ciro Immobile, already on six goals, can fire his team to a win away to a Verona side which are yet to register a victory.
Crotone vs Benevento
19th plays 20th, or to put it another way, Crotone with one point in the bag hosts Benevento with one less. It’s been a baptism of fire for the new boys and if, as expected, they lose this one, it’s going to be a long, long season.
Cagliari vs Chievo
Here’s another mid-table battle at Cagliari when they host Chievo. But the home side is on the better form, with two wins from the last three games while the visitors haven’t won since the opening day. Cagliari is at 2.21 to win this match.
WEEK 6 MONDAY:
Sassuolo vs Bologna
Cagliari’s winning run was halted by Sassuolo on Wednesday and that, in turn, ended a run of three consecutive defeats for the hosts. Another win will enable them to leapfrog 13th placed Bologna, itself without a win in three.
Fiorentina vs Atalanta
After two wins on the bounce, the Viola fought hard in Turin and was a little unlucky to lose 1-0 to Juventus. Atalanta are in good shape too, thumping Crotone 5-1 and recently beating Everton 3-0 in the UEFA cup. Both will hope to improve on their current mid table positions and this will be a great contest.
