??
Russia vs Saudi Arabia 1X2 Draw @ 4.20
June 14, 23:00 (GMT+8)

Truth be told, neither of these sides could be described as A class, or B class for that matter.

Yet, at a time when the host country is under scrutiny for many reasons, the Russians are ready.

That they are the second-lowest ranked team in the competition and—as hosts—did not even have to qualify are largely irrelevant.

This is their own party and they want to make sure they have something to look forward to after the group stages.

Will home advantage ensure they see off the Saudis—rank outsiders themselves—or will the pressure be too much?

In what will surprise many, I think the spirited Saudis will grab a point.

??
Egypt vs Uruguay Uruguay Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 2.19
June 15, 20:00 (GMT+8)

Egypt have waited a long time to be back on the greatest international stage of all. It was 1990 when they last graced a World Cup and, as a football fanatical schoolboy, I remember it well.

In coach Hector Cuper, confined to a wheelchair due to Guillain-Barre syndrome, they have an experienced figurehead. In Mo Salah, they have one of the best players in the world during the past season.

The latter, of course, cannot possibly be match fit after his injury in the recent Champions League final, while Uruguay have a point to prove after their 2014 tournament during which they knocked out England and Italy but saw striker Luis Suarez sent home in disgrace.

With Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin in their ranks, I think they will have too much for Egypt.

??
Portugal vs Spain Spain Asian Handicap -0.75 @ 2.29
June 16, 02:00 (GMT+8)

This would not be out of keeping as a World Cup semi-final and is certainly not a match you would expect in the group stages.

Although Portugal have the best player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo cannot expect to carry a decent but unspectacular side to another success, just as he did against the odds at Euro 2016.

If anything, this Portugal outfit is not as strong; and at 34 next birthday, Ronaldo is two years older.

It will be interesting to see how Spain react to the news their coach Julen Lopetegui will leave at the end of the tournament to manage Real Madrid.

He will be managing a number of the players in his squad at club level from next August, and possibly Ronaldo too.

If Spain had Ronaldo, they would be my favourites for the tournament.

Even without him though, they are strong and I expect them to win this one.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
