Burnley vs Manchester United
Manchester United make the short trip to Burnley on Sunday, in an attempt to extend its unbeaten run of 22 Premier League football games.
Despite Jose Mourinho’s difficult moods and Red Devils’ fans frustration at living (temporarily they hope) in the shadow of Manchester City, it’s by no means all doom and gloom at Old Trafford.
United could even rest their best players, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in last week’s outstanding 2-0 win over Chelsea, which confounded betting tips and blew the title race wide open. And if they can win at Turf Moor, the gap to City, in fourth place, will be down to a single point. Still in the Europa League (at the time of writing) and with the EFL Cup already in the bag, qualification for the Champions League next year could come on two fronts.
Burnley wouldn’t be Jose’s choice to spend his Sunday though; as Chelsea manager and now at Manchester United, Sean Dyche’s tough outfit have upset the Special One with its refusal to roll over and have its tummy tickled. The Clarets combative striker, Ashley Barnes has twice given Jose a nervous twitch, and he certainly won’t underestimate the hosts.
With a defence marshalled by England players Tom Heaton and Michael Keane and the threat of winger Robbie Brady, these are no mugs as ten home wins testify.
Next up for United, it’s Manchester City at the Etihad, and while the Sky Blues will be expected to win, if the gap is down to one point then the pressure rises.
But the Red Devils need to escape Burnley intact first!
