Premier League: Will it be Three in a Row for the Cottagers?

countdown banner

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Fulham

Both Fulham and Wolves have recently been making noise in midfield of the Premier League standings, so it’ll be interesting to see how these well-matched teams fare against each other when Wolverhampton play host to Fulham this weekend.

Wolves fans can only wait and see if Marco Silva will yet again rotate his depleted roster after a poor performance against the Magpies, and it’ll be foolish to prematurely count Wolverhampton out of their tie against the Cottagers.

In the same breath, Fulham have found their form late in the season, and they’ll be more than happy to march to Molineux Stadium to face an ailing Wolves squad.

Talking Points

The Cottagers found their form late in the season

Fulham’s recent showing in the Premier League for the past few weeks just affirms why one can never count the Cottagers out.

Marco Silva and his boys are poised to finish the season in the upper half of the standings, thanks to their current tail-end run. They’ve been beaten just once in their last five, garnering 10 points to boot.

They headlined the Premier League 2024 news stories after marching to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils, where they successfully triumphed over Erik ten Hag’s outfit in a thrilling 1-2 tie.

After leading for most of the second half, United’s veteran Harry Maguire managed to find the back of the net, levelling the match in minute 89. But Fulham’s budding stud, Alex Iwobi, sent the Red Devils fans home with great dismay after a scrappy Hail Mary corner deep in added time.

With this win in their back pockets, Fulham played host to the Europa League contestants, Brighton, at Craven Cottage. Marco Silva’s rejuvenated squad picked up where they left off and proceeded to thrash the Seagulls in front of the roaring Fulham fans, ending the bout with a 3-0 clean sheet win.

Thanks to their strong results in the past few weeks, the Cottagers have now garnered a total of 35 points and are a win away from possibly trampoulining themselves to the 10th spot with a win against the ailing Wolves this weekend.

Can Wolverhampton keep it going without Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha?

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hwang Hee-chan applauds fans after the Premier League match against Burnley

Gary O’Neil’s Wolves found themselves with a two-game winning streak after their 1-nil win over Sheffield United last week, but it seems that their luck finally ran out.

Wolves now have to brave a good chunk of the Premier League season without their budding star, Hwang Hee-chan. The 28-year-old forward recently suffered a hamstring injury during their FA Cup fifth-round game against Brighton at Molineux.

The South Korean went off the field on his own two feet, so it seemed like his injury was minor at most. But to the horror of Wolves fans, Hwangso’s scans revealed that his injury was worse than expected, forcing him to miss at least six weeks of action.

To make things worse, the already-ailing Wolves will have to deal with the surging Fulham outfit without their star forward, Matheus Cunha, who is also dealing with a hamstring injury.

“It’s approximately six weeks for Channy, which is obviously a disaster for where we are at this moment. Him and Cunha will probably be back around similar times, probably Cunha slightly earlier than Channy now, so losing Pedro today was far from ideal,” Wolves manager Gary O’Neil stated.

With a depleted final third, it will take a herculean effort from Marco Silva and the rest of his team to fend off a streaking Fulham, who have no plans on slowing down.

History

Both outfits have been playing a good stretch of football in the past few weeks, but the difference is Fulham have remained healthy.

In their past head-to-heads, two of their last three have ended in a draw, but Fulham bossed Wolverhampton in their last match with a 3-2 victory.

Wolves, with a depleted roster, faced Newcastle United last matchday and suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat. This evidently shows the struggles Wolves are currently facing without two of their star forwards.

Meanwhile, to the delight of SBOTOP football fans, Fulham thrashed the Seagulls in their last Premier League tie with a 3-0 clean sheet victory.

Betting Tip

Despite having pivotal players on the sidelines, the Premier League 2024 betting odds still have Wolverhampton as the slight favourites at 2.45 against Fulham, who are the underdogs at 2.62 with a draw price of 3.21.

In my opinion, Fulham as the underdogs at 2.62 poses immense value, given their recent form and health compared to Marco Silva’s outfit.

Another line to consider is total goals under 2.5 at 2.00. These outfits have just scored more than three goals once in their last five matches, and with Wolves missing their vital pieces in the offencive end, it’s hard to imagine that this match will end in a high aggregate.
