Premier League: No Time to Sulk for Arsenal

countdown banner

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal

As the title race in the Premier League gets hotter and hotter, garnering points gets more difficult as the season comes to a dramatic end. Luckily for Arsenal, despite their recent blows, they have a good opportunity to keep the pressure on the title race with a top-flight bout against the ailing Wolves at Molineux this weekend.

Wolves might once again lean on their top goal scorer, Matheus Cunha, to get them over the hump. Cunha was their bright spot during their 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, but collectively, they’ve been quite pedestrian. Garnering just five points in their last five is clear evidence of their recent woes, but a roaring, passionate home crowd at Molineux could be the X factor for O’Neil and his outfit.

Talking Points

Arsenal need to keep their heads up

After falling to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals, Arteta and his men need to quickly regroup themselves and pretend like their shortcomings against Bayern didn’t happen, as they’re still very much in the title race in the Premier League.

Their loss against Aston Villa last week really hurt their Premier League 2024 odds, while their exit from the Champions League could’ve affected their morale more than meets the eye.

But a star-studded club led by Mikel Arteta should be able to bounce back when it matters, and their upcoming bout against Gary O’Neil’s Wolves might be one of the most pivotal matches for the Gunners at this stage of the season.

Arsenal’s heart and grit were showcased during their match against Bayern, as it looked like they controlled the pace in the first half and were the ones pushing forward.

If Arsenal show as much effort against Wolves, then they should be in a good position to keep the pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race. They’re currently tied with Liverpool with 71 points and are just two points behind league-leading Manchester City.

Ideally, both the Gunners and the Reds would want to keep this small of a gap to the summit, as garnering points will just get more and more difficult as the season comes to a close.

But historically, Arsenal have bossed their past head-to-head matchups with Wolves, so Arteta and his men shouldn’t push the panic button just yet.

Cunha delivers, but struggles collectively

Elsewhere, Matheus Cunha once again carries Wolverhampton by himself, scoring a brace against Nottingham Forest to deny the Trees sweet salvation from the relegation zone and further keeping the pressure on the mid-table teams.

But Gary O’Neil can’t rely on Cunha’s heroics to save them every matchday, can he?

Cunha has been Wolves’ ace this season, scoring 11 goals and claiming six assists in 27 appearances. But collectively, the Wanderers have been wondering how they can garner wins.

Wolves have won just one top-flight match in their last five, and their recent draws against relegation candidates Burnley and Nottingham Forest highlight their current struggles.

Their offence has been pretty decent, but their first third has struggled to get goals out of their goal. The last time Wolves tallied a clean sheet was back in February against Sheffield United, and it doesn’t help that they’ll face off against one of the most potent offences in the league this weekend.

Fans at Molineux on Sunday can only hope and pray that their home advantage will be enough for their Wolves to gather and garner winning Premier League 2024 results against the title hopefuls.

History

As stated above, Arsenal have bossed their head-to-head matchups against Wolverhampton. They’ve faced each other 21 times across all competitions since 2003. In those matches, the Gunners have won 15, while Wolves only garnered three wins and tallied three draws.

In recent form, both clubs, by their own standards, have struggled in the past few weeks. Wolves were able to tally just five points in their last five, while Arsenal are in a mini slump after back-to-back losses against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.

Betting Tip

The odds at SBOTOP understandably have the visiting Arsenal as the heavy favourites at 1.33, while the hosts, Wolverhampton Wanderers, are at 7.30 despite their home advantage with a draw price of 4.65.

Arsenal are the clear choice as far as 1×2 goes, but their price of 1.33 doesn’t hold that much value and excitement for punters to consider.

Instead, my betting tip is total goals over 2.75 at 1.80. It’s well established that Arsenal boast one, if not the most potent, offence in the entire English top flight. Coupled with Wolverhampton’s struggles on the defencive end, Arsenal have a good chance of taking their anger out on Wolves’ half and going on a goal-spree.
