More injury woes for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has been under major pressure in the past few weeks. His brand of football continues to divide opinion among fans, especially since the Spurs have conceded 13 goals in their last six games, including six against Liverpool and four against Chelsea.

However, looking at the bigger picture, Tottenham’s barren run is not entirely Postecoglou’s fault since the team is dealing with multiple absences. According to reports, the Spurs might miss up to eight players ahead of their home game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Destiny Udogie is the latest casualty after the Italian international picked up a hamstring injury in the second half of their 2-2 draw against the Wolves. Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, and Guglielmo Vicario are also injured, while Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended.

Sergio Reguilon is poised to take Udogie’s place in the starting left-back role, and he’ll likely join Archie Gray, Radu Dragusin, and Pedro Porro in the back four. Ange Postecoglou could also give James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr, and Timo Werner more playing time after coming off the bench last time out.

 

Isak on fire for Newcastle United

Alexander Isak is a name to watch in the January transfer window, as rival teams are expressing their interest in him. The Swedish international scored eight times in December 2024, including an impressive hat-trick against Ipswich Town, to take his tally to 12 league goals – good for joint third in the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Newcastle United would be asinine to sell Isak in January. But, if they do so, given their well-documented financial concerns, the Magpies are asking for a fee of at least £150 million. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are reportedly interested in the 25-year-old striker.

Another name to watch in the scoresheet this weekend is Joelinton, as the Brazilian midfielder has found the back of the net in his last two appearances. He is the team’s third-leading scorer with four league goals.
