Premier League: Expect Goals from Leeds and Liverpool at Elland Road

The Whites’ bid for Premier League survival continues at Elland Road this Monday, as they’re set to host Liverpool in what will be another fascinating encounter.

Leeds are coming off a crushing 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace last week, while Liverpool managed to hold league leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Liverpool are currently eighth in the standings with 44 points, and they’re desperate to spark a late push for a spot in Europe next season, although finishing in the top four sounds unrealistic at this point.

Meanwhile, Leeds, who are in 16^th place, are gunning for points to put them clear of the relegation zone.

The pre-game SBOTOP betting odds expect Liverpool to cruise past Leeds, but it should be taken with a grain of salt since Leeds already beat them earlier this season.

Leeds improving under Gracia

The jury is still out on Javi Gracia, but so far, Leeds have improved. Under his tutelage, Leeds recorded three wins in their first seven league games under him, which is more than in their previous 20 league games.

Gracia has been mixing it up with his rotations, and he has yet to find a consistently winning combination, but there are a few players that you have to keep an eye on if you’re Liverpool.

Rodrigo Moreno and Crysencio Summerville, the guys who scored on them last time, should be factors on Monday. And they should be ready to go after being rested against Crystal Palace.

But the star man for Leeds in this match is Jack Harrison, who recently signed a five-year deal to extend his stay at Elland Road. Harrison has been solid this year, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists to keep opposing defences honest.

When Harrison finds the back of the net, it’s almost guaranteed that Leeds will win. He has scored in 30 matches, and the Whites have won 26 of those games (87-per cent).

In other team news, Tyler Adams is still sidelined for the hosts due to a hamstring injury that he sustained before the international break. Weston McKennie will continue to fill in for his compatriot in midfield alongside Marc Roca.

Salah will be vital for Liverpool

Leeds’ backline is going to key in on Mohamed Salah, who just won his second Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month award this 2022-23 campaign.

Mohamed Salah seems to love playing against Leeds since he has notched seven goals and one assist in his four games against them, which is the highest mark by any Liverpool player.

He also became one of only four players to have at least 20 goals and assists in six consecutive Premier League seasons after scoring against Arsenal last weekend, joining Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, and Harry Kane.

Furthermore, the return of Luis Diaz and Thiago will further benefit Liverpool. Diaz hasn’t played since October, while Thiago came off the bench against Arsenal.

History

Leeds had one of the biggest Premier League 2023 results against Liverpool at Anfield during their reverse fixture last October with a score of 2-1. 

Rodrigo Moreno scored first for the Whites after just four minutes, and then Mohamed Salah drew level 10 minutes later. But Crysencio Summerville came up clutch when he put the Whites ahead for good with his late goal.

Should Leeds win again on Monday, it’ll only be their second ever Premier League double against Liverpool, having previously achieved it in the 2000-01 season under former manager David O’Leary.

But Liverpool haven’t lost any of their last five league games at Elland Road (W3, D2) since losing 4-3 in November 2000, although they’ve been terrible on the road this campaign (13 points in 15 away games – their lowest mark so far since 1992-93).

Betting Tip

The Premier League 2023 odds have Liverpool as the favourites to win on Monday, as they’re installed at 1.72, whereas a win or draw for Leeds is priced at 3.85 in the 1X2 market.

Since their 7-0 win over Manchester United, Liverpool have yet to win a game across all competitions, but they’re poised to end their winless run against Leeds because they have the stronger squad on paper.

But the Whites won’t back down against the Reds, and these two teams should entertain the fans at Elland Road once again, so we’re going for Over 2.75 at 1.74. You can also go for Total Goal 2-3 at 2.06, but Total Goal 4-6 is also worth considering at 2.74.
