Premier League: The Whites to Pile Misery on the Canaries

Norwich City vs Leeds United

Leeds United are set on grabbing their second victory of the 2021/22 season when they’ll take on Norwich City this Sunday at Carrow Road.

The Whites and the Canaries aren’t far from each other in the Premier League standings. However, the threat of being in the relegation zone continues to loom large for both of these clubs.

The new kids on the block in Norwich City aren’t doing well as they’re languishing at the bottom with only two points, whereas Leeds United are holding on at 17th with seven points.

Norwich City would want to give their fans something to cheer about as they’ll try to produce their share of Premier League 2021 highlights, but Leeds United would want to do the same as well.

From their countless encounters in the Championship, now they’ll add another chapter to their rivalry here in English top-flight and it’ll be exciting to see which club will get the upper hand this time.

Talking Points

Nowhere to go but up for Norwich City

Chelsea’s demolition job in the last time out sums up Norwich City’s campaign so far. In the said match, the Blues punched in seven goals while the Canaries had none.

It got so bad that Norwich’s sporting director called their defeat “disgraceful” and “embarassing”, especially since they haven’t won a single game despite spending a decent amount of money for players last summer.

The goals have come short in supply for Norwich City which is unusual for a Daniel Farke team as Teemu Pukki is the only player to have scored in the Premier League this term with two.

Summer acquisitions Milot Rashica and Josh Sargent have yet to make an impact and Daniel Farke might consider switching up his tactics in order to get them going.

Defence isn’t a strong suit for Norwich City either and they’re going to struggle this weekend against Leeds United since some of their key players won’t be available.

Ben Gibson got two yellow cards against Chelsea so he’ll serve his one-match suspension, while Christoph Zimmerman is still on the mend following his ankle surgery.

Centre-backs Grant Hanley and Ozan Kabak, and goalkeeper Tim Krul will definitely have their hands full against the Whites.

Rodrigo and Kalvin Phillips will carry Leeds United

Leeds United came into this campaign with high expectations following their ninth-placed finish in 2020/21. But a lack of summer movement and a growing injury list has hindered them from taking that next step.

Top striker Patrick Bamford has been absent since their draw against Newcastle last month, while Luke Ayling and Robin Koch are still working their way up to 100-per cent fitness.

In Bamford’s absence, Rodrigo has stepped up for Leeds and he is in fine form. The club-record signing was instrumental since he scored the last-minute penalty to secure a much-needed point against the Wolves last week.

Furthermore, influential midfielder Kalvin Phillips returned to the pitch in their Tuesday EFL Cup clash against Arsenal after dealing with a myriad of injuries, and he’ll definitely provide a huge boost for the Whites.

History

Norwich City and Leeds United have had 59 meetings since 1935 and their head-to-heads are as close as it gets. Leeds United have the slight edge with 23 wins while Norwich City have 20 along with 16 draws.

These two teams last met in February 2019 where the Canaries beat the Whites 3-1, courtesy of goals from Teemu Pukki and Mario Vranic. Patrick Bamford scored the consolation goal for the Whites late.

Leeds United won the reverse fixture earlier in the same 2018/2019 Championship season as Ezgjan Alioski, Mateusz Klich, and Pablo Hernandez scored one goal apiece en route to a 3-0 win at Elland Road.

Sunday marks the first time since 1995 where they’ll square off in English top-flight. Leeds United won their previous Premier League encounter with a score of 2-1 – in a match that confirmed Norwich City’s relegation at the time.

Betting Tip

??
Norwich City vs Leeds United Leeds United Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 2.16
October 31, 22:00 (GMT+8)

The SBOTOP Premier League 2021 odds are backing Leeds to come away with their second win of the campaign.

The Whites are installed at 2.16, while Norwich City are priced at 3.25 to win and chances for a draw are at 3.35 in the 1X2 market.

This should be a cagey affair as both sides are growing desperate by the day. And while their desire to move up is unquestioned, Leeds United are better equipped to take home the three points.

The fact that the Whites are placed higher than the Canaries at the standings speaks for itself and they should have no problem in beating their hosts this weekend.
