AFC Bournemouth vs Manchester United
AFC Bournemouth and Manchester United are both in very interesting situations if we consider the current status quo of the Premier League.
If we turn around the clock to a decade ago, the Cherries were struggling to stay afloat in the Premier League while the Red Devils were flying high in England and Europe under the guidance and tactical genius of Sir Alex Ferguson. Nowadays, however, Bournemouth are competing for Champions League positions with England’s best while United are struggling to find consistency in their form.
Jose Mourinho and his Red Devils will be coming to Vitality Stadium in a better mood, but they know that a match against Eddie Howe’s Cherries in their condition will be anything but easy. There is no question the Cherries will fight tooth and nail to pull off an impressive result against United, and their current run of form suggests that this is going to likely happen.
We could be in for an exciting match come the kick-off on Saturday, and this game can go either way for both teams. Such news promise nothing but excitement for the neutral SBOBET fan!
Talking Points
Manchester United are still far from having any semblance of good form, and that factoid alone frustrates many a United fan. The Red Devils’ inability to properly score and defend has been a major point of criticism in Mourinho’s third year in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, Manchester United’s strong outing against Everton has brought back the light to the eyes of the many United faithful. The Red Devils that played against the Toffees weren’t the best team the fans have seen, but it was a good start.
At the heart of the Manchester United attack last week was a very impressive Anthony Martial. The 22-year-old Frenchman has forced himself back to the Starting XI with his impeccable play last season. He was at the heart of many Manchester attacks against Everton, and Mourinho would be a fool not to use the winger.
He also needs Paul Pogba to perform. While the World Cup winner has been poking the hornet’s nest with his most recent comments, his skills as a superb deep-lying playmaker are undeniable. Mourinho has long struggled with keeping his midfielder happy and in form, but the Frenchman can make many a wonderful play if he so wished.
If the Portuguese gaffer can somehow get all of his players to focus on the task at hand and play beautiful, coordinated football, there should be no reason for the Red Devils to mow through the opposition and beat Bournemouth to a pulp.
However, I would advise against simply disregarding the overachieving Cherries. Eddie Howe and his team manage to simply impress whenever the odds are against them, and that’s exactly what they’re doing now against pre-season Premier League 2018 odds.
The fantastic run of form the Cherries are in at the moment are reflecting greatly on Howe’s man management skills and his tactical genius. The Cherries’ outstanding start to the season has renewed calls for the former Bournemouth defender to get one of the big-time jobs in English football.
Of course, the success of the team was still brought by the players, and his men have done well to exceed expectations and make a lot of Premier League 2018 news. Ryan Fraser is the biggest of the overachievers as the Scotland international has imposed his will from the left midfield with his three goals and five assists.
Callum Wilson has also blossomed into the prolific striker every Cherries supporter knew he could, making Howe believe that an England call-up is an inevitable reality for him. He will be bringing the goals for the Cherries if the Manchester backline sleeps on him defensively.
Of course, the Cherries are still far from being a perfect team. Their bore draw against Southampton showcased that there’s still room to improve for this team. However, there is no question that the Cherries are legitimate Premier League opponents that Man United should be wary about.
History
There isn’t a lot of history to talk about between the two clubs since Bournemouth spent a good chunk of their history in the lower tiers of football. However, the oldest Bournemouth fans can vividly remember the Cherries’ brilliant FA Cup victory over the Red Devils during the 1983/84 season.
The league results, however, tell a different story. After Bournemouth’s shocking 2-1 win over United in their maiden Premier League campaign, the Cherries found themselves on the wrong end of a hiding in May. The subsequent seasons saw the Cherries struggle to get an edge over their opponents.

It would usually be insane to pick the Cherries over Manchester United, but there is a method to this madness.
Bournemouth haven’t lost a game since late September against Burnley. Sure, their opponents since then aren’t the toughest of customers, but they have been able to score in five of their last six matches in all competitions. There is no reason to doubt the Cherries’ ability to pull off a result here.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s away form as of late is nothing short of tragic. Their 3-1 meltdown at the London Stadium and their back-and-forth match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge showcased the club’s struggles away from Old Trafford as of late.
Of course, Martial, Pogba, and the rest of the Manchester XI are overwhelming favourites to win the match, the Cherries have been defying expectations year in and year out. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to give them a bit of a nod.
If you’re interested in other Premier League 2018 odds, it’d be worth checking the Over Under and Total Goal markets. If you think both sides will score two apiece before calling it quits, 4-6 Total Goals reward with 3.00. The correct score is at 13.00.
