Liverpool vs Sheffield United
It’s a new year here in the Premier League, and what better way to kick off 2020 than an exciting match between the Reds and the Blades tomorrow in Anfield.
Liverpool have been nothing short of brilliant this season as they are yet to be defeated. They are the league leaders in the table with 55 points and they lead by a whopping 13 points against the second placers in Leicester City. They are the heavy favourites to win it all after this season based on our Premier League 2020 odds.
The Reds will face the eighth-seeded Blades who have been taking care of business as of late. They are, however, in a midst of a grueling two-game road trip.
Sheffield United have failed to register a point to end the year after losing against Manchester City. But overall, Chris Wilder’s side has done pretty well for themselves this campaign.
The Blades can rise up to as high as the fifth seed should they do the improbable against the Reds and for sure they’ll do all they can to pull it off.
SBOBET kicks off the New Year with a preview of this highly-anticipated match.
Talking Points
Liverpool looking to surpass The Invincibles
It seems real now for the Reds as they are at the cusp to return to championship glory in the Premier League, and what a perfect time to be a Reds fan!
While the defending champions in Manchester City have been trying their best to hold on to their trophy, they suffered some key losses that may have derailed their campaign.
On the other hand, Liverpool kept on winning and they don’t seem to know when to stop. Jurgen Klopp has done a fantastic job in steering his men to new heights and they are expected to produce a lot of Premier League 2020 highlights.
Liverpool’s attack in particular has been frightening against opponents’ defences. They are currently third in the league with 47 goals scored so far this season.
Sadio Mane and Mo Salah continue to hum along as the team’s options up front. They have recorded 19 goals and six assists already this term.
In the midfield, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, and Georginio Wijnaldum continue to make life miserable for their counterparts. Their mix of technical skill, athleticism, and veteran smarts has been instrumental for Jurgen Klopp’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
Of course, how can we forget their vaunted backline? After all, they have only given up 14 goals this term, leading the Premier League in the process.
Virgil Van Dijk is still the best centre-back in the world and he is dubbed as the club’s greatest signing ever. With his aerial prowess and leadership at the defence, he makes his £76-M contract back then look like a big bargain.
Even with the likes of Fabinho, Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out, Klopp’s brilliance at the helm should bode well for the Reds. They are on track to surpass The Invincibles with the way they are going, and this year’s title is theirs to lose.
Sheffield United are the real deal
The Blades have never lost consecutive league games this season, and they are hopeful to keep that trend by upsetting the Reds tomorrow.
Sheffield United started their two-game road trip with a 2-0 loss against Manchester City as Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne took turns in smashing in one goal apiece.
However, even with their recent setback, one can’t help but look back to the great year that Sheffield United have experienced.
The last 12 months will live long in the memory of their fans as they’ve witnessed their squad quickly adapt to being in the top-flight after winning automatic promotion last term.
Lys Mousset has been excellent since signing a £10-M contract last July 2019. He is their top scorer with five goals already this season.
The high-flying Blades aren’t really that formidable on their attack, as they’ve relied on to their astute defence for the most part by conceding only 19 goals this season.
The combo of John Egan, Jack O’Connell, and Chris Basham has been a fortress for Sheffield United, but they will face a gargantuan test in handling Liverpool’s fierce attack.
History
Sheffield United have only won one of their last 13 away matches against Liverpool in all competitions (D1, L12). Their last win against Liverpool dates back to 1994 when Jostein Flo scored two goals for the visitors.
The Merseysiders have won all 11 of their home league games against newly-promoted sides under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp. They’ve also scored 33 goals while conceding only four in those fixtures.
Betting Tip
Liverpool vs Sheffield United | Liverpool Asian Handicap -1.25 @ 1.70 | |
January 03, 04:00 (GMT+8) |
Liverpool are expected to win in this match based on the 1×2 market. They are placed at 1.30, while Sheffield United are at 9.75. Chances for a draw are pegged at 5.00.
But the Blades should come in here and make things a little interesting in Anfield and Jurgen Klopp’s side may not churn out a high-scoring performance than most would expect.
Either way, however, it’s safe to place your bets on a Liverpool win on this one. I see this ending up with a 1-0 victory for the Reds.
