While the Premier League and other European competitions take a break, to help subdue the growth of Coronavirus, the world keeps on turning.
Footy fans around the globe are getting a fix by working their way through live match recordings and maybe some old DVDs… it could be a good time to do some decorating! But this time will pass, and when we get back to normal there may be a glut of games to pack in, and the summer transfer window will be nearer.
So the rumour mill is whirring as fast as ever; and here I’m taking a look at some of the big whispers that have caught my ear…
Could Harry Kane finally leave Spurs?
With discussions ongoing around the effect of Coronavirus disruptions to Europe’s domestic leagues, the European showcase of Euro 2020 has been moved on to 2021.
England are currently favourites to win at SBOBET odds of 5.00, but whenever the competition starts, much depends on the fitness of captain and top scorer Harry Kane. He’s the hottest striker in the UK when available, and speculation arises every year as to whether he will leave Tottenham Hotspur in search of trophies, much as former Spurs star Christian Eriksen did when he hopped it to Inter Milan in January.
The press in Italy have been stoking things up, by suggesting he is ready to shun Manchester United in favour of a move to Juventus.
Busy times at Old Trafford
The Red Devils’ goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, has impressed on loan at Sheffield United this season, and is one of the main reasons the Blades have steered clear of a relegation battle. And while Manchester United see him as a possible replacement for David de Gea, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have a battle to keep hold of their young star.
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have had a good season so far, and the latest Premier League 2020 betting odds back them to finish fourth, as and when the season completes, but the Blues’ boss has had goalkeeping problems and could see Henderson as a replacement for the inconsistent Kepa, and he’s reportedly ready to table a £50m bid for the United keeper.
Defender Phil Jones’ career seems to have stalled at Old Trafford and former Red Devils defender Steve Bruce is interested in taking the 28 year old to Newcastle. He’s only made eight appearances for Manchester United all season and this could be his last.
Potentially on the way in to the Theatre of Dreams is Ajax midfield ace Donny van de Beek, as the Red Devils and Real Madrid have started a race to sign the Netherlands star.
Meanwhile loan striker Odion Ighalo is keen to make his move from Shanghai Shenhua to Manchester permanent and is apparently willing to take a £6m pay cut. The big former Watford target man has made a good impression at Old Trafford.
Top Two stars under the microscope
Both Liverpool and Manchester City could see a creative force fly through the exit door, subject to replacements coming in. Real Madrid have made Senegalese attacker Sadio Mane their main summer target, Jurgen Klopp may well be keen keep hold of the 27 year old.
Meanwhile Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is being tracked by Paris St Germain who could be looking for a ready made replacement if Neymar leaves the Parc des Princes.
Dwight’s all right for Clarets
Leicester City are leading a number of clubs tracking Burnley’s hot property, England U21 winger Dwight McNeil. They may have to fight off interest from Manchester United and Serie A giants Juventus, but Burnley is no longer a selling club and can offer the 20 year old first team football as he looks to break into the senior England squad.
Meanwhile Chelsea are reported to be ready to pay £85m for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey who has impressed in the Europa League. But if Lampard were to offer Sean Dyche that kind of money for McNeil he might just bite his hand off!
Diogo going?
Manchester United have also been linked with a possible move for Wolves forward Diogo Jota in recent weeks, and Arsenal are now thought to be considering a swoop for the 23-year-old. But he could be on the way to Napoli as Azzurri head coach Gennaro Gattuso is an admirer and may need to find a replacement for top scorer Dries Mertens should he move on.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen in defence too and are thought to be ready to bring centre back Issa Diop from West Ham to the Emirates. The Hammers value him at £60m but may be forced to sell if they go down.
So that’s it for now.
We’ll keep the Premier League 2020 news and updates coming and, you know what, when the live football returns and the crowds flood back in, we’ll love the beautiful game even more than we did before!
