Premier League: Foxes Can Feast on Misfiring Gunners

countdown banner

Leicester City vs Arsenal

If you were an Arsenal fan how would you feel about a trip to Leicester this weekend?

Well, Premier League; Leicester City vs Arsenal is the Saturday tea-time fixture, and I suspect even the most ardent Gunner is more than a little worried.

Leicester are serious contenders for a top four place this season, playing scintillating football at times; and even in a rare defeat they pushed runaway leaders Liverpool all the way at Anfield, losing by the odd goal in three to a last minute penalty.

Meanwhile Unai Emery’s Arsenal have been on a poor run of form, culminating in an underwhelming draw against Vitoria in the Europa League on Wednesday. The moods in the two clubs could hardly be more contrasting. Brendan Rodgers has inspired a vibrant atmosphere at Leicester trusting his players to express themselves, while at Arsenal the players look lost at times, when they aren’t arguing with their own fans.

Talking Points

Leicester supporters are mad for Madisson

Rodgers is blessed by the array of talent at his disposal. The latest Leicester City vs Arsenal betting odds predict a fairly close encounter, but if recent form, and the mood in each camp is anything to go by, I’d give the Foxes a great chance to savage the Gunners.

Arch striker Jamie Vardy has been completely transformed since the arrival of Rodgers late last season, and he’s the Premier League top scorer with ten goals, three coming in the brutal 0-9 hammering of Southampton. And Rodgers has exciting new talent to call on in the likes of Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes.

But the player everybody is talking about is attacking midfielder James Madisson. The 22 year old has scored three goals and made two assists so far, but his influence has been far greater. He completely dominated the midfield, making chance after chance as Leicester pulled off a 0-2 win at Crystal Palace, always a difficult place to go.

Surely he’ll receive an England call-up when Gareth Southgate makes his selection for the upcoming internationals. Madisson did drop a clanger when he was called up in October for the matches with the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. He pulled out with an illness, but was pictured out in a casino days later.

Apparently Southgate hasn’t spoken to the young star since, but that may be about to change.

Unai’s away day blues

Arsenal suffered another away disappointment in midweek, when they lost their 100 per cent Europa League record in Portugal, drawing 1-1 with Vitoria after conceding an injury time equaliser. Shkodran Mustafi put the Gunners ahead with ten minutes remaining only for Bruno Duarte to equalise with a spectacular scissor kick. Not that Emery was impressed. In a worrying trend Arsenal have all too often shown a tendency to choke, surrendering a 2-0 lead to Crystal Palace in a recent clash at the Emirates, and in a match at newly promoted Sheffield United, they misfired disastrously to lose the game 1-0.

Arsenal have only one victory in their last five Premier League matches
Unai Emery is coming under pressure after a series of poor Arsenal performances

Too much rests on the shoulders of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang, who has eight goals, and new recruits Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos need to step up. At the back the defence is marshalled by David Luiz, a fine footballer but a dodgy defender at times.

Former Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas fears the Gunners could get a mauling from Rodgers’ Foxes and I’m inclined to agree.

History

Arsenal have dominated the head to head Leicester City vs Arsenal results in the Premier League era, winning sixteen, drawing seven and losing just three. But that doesn’t mean much when you look at recent form.

Leicester have won five of the last six games, over which period Arsenal have won just once. In fact the Foxes are on a four match winning streak and are unbeaten in their last eight games at the KingPower. Put that together with Arsenal’s homesickness and it’s looking good for the Foxes.

Betting Tip

??
Leicester City vs Arsenal Leicester City 1×2 @ 2.04
November 10, 01:30 (GMT+8)

The Gunners are available at 3.25 to win here at SBOBET, with the draw at 3.60. But there is too much evidence to predict that either of those results are on the cards.

I think Unai Emery would be delighted if his team could achieve a draw, but he’ll need all his players to perform while the Foxes have an off day. The hosts march up to third place, with nine points from the last three games, suggests an off day isn’t around the corner, and their six point advantage over the Gunners is likely to stretch.

Leicester whacked Arsenal 3-0 at the KingPower last April and they are at 22.00 to repeat that score-line.
