Manchester City vs Brighton Hove & Albion
I wouldn’t fancy being a seagull anywhere near the Etihad Stadium this weekend; as that part of Manchester is home to some of the sharpest shooters in the business!
Premier LeagueManchester City vs Brighton is a chance to watch the champions in action against a side which is likely to struggle this season. And the odds suggest it could be a massacre. Pep Guardiola has once again improved a team which has already broken records and that’s a frightening prospect for the mortals in the bottom half of the league.
And that’s where pundits expected Brighton to spend another season, but new boss Graham Potter is determined to prove us all wrong and already has a win under his belt.
Talking Points
Sergio the Great
Since his arrival on the Premier League scene back in 2011, Sergio Aguero has established himself as the very best striker, netting 400 goals for club and country, including a goal either side of half time in City’s win at Bournemouth last week.
The Argentine hit man has four already this season but, incredibly, that doesn’t make him City’s top scorer as Raheem Sterling has gone one better. Add Gabriel Jesus into the mix and you’re going to see goals galore. West Ham suffered a 0-5 hammering at the hands of the Sky Blues on the opening day of the season, and Brighton might get a similar hiding, unless they find a way to stop the supply line coming from David and Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Good luck with that!
Seagulls’ plan to stay afloat
It was a shock to many in the football world when Brighton sacked their manager Chris Hughton when he had just guided them to a second survival season after winning them a first promotion to the Premier League in 2017. But he struggled last season after a strong start, winning only three of the last 23 league games and narrowly escaping relegation.
New man Graham Potter made a dream start as boss with a 0-3 win away to Watford, but since then the Seagulls have drawn with West Ham and lost at home to Southampton. Striker Florin Andone will be missing in Manchester after receiving his marching orders against the Saints for a dangerous challenge.
But if the Seagulls are to survive again, then they will rely on the form of goalkeeper Mat Ryan and big centre back pairing of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy. We’ll see if they can reach last season’s high standards when they face Aguero and co.
OOH AH VAR
The arrival of VAR in the Premier League was greeted with a combination of welcome and concern. And Pep Guardiola says he still supports the video assistance despite it costing his side two points when they drew with Spurs recently. Aymeric Laporte was found to have handled in the run-up to Gabriel Jesus’ goal and the Brazilian’s celebrations were cruelly halted.
Spurs fans chanted ‘Ooh Ah VAR’ after the technology gave them a helping hand, just as it did when the two teams clashed in the 2019 Champions League. But the Whites themselves were stunned when VAR somehow failed to award them a penalty against Newcastle last time out.
And the Seagulls have already had two goals ruled out by the technology.
It’s all big news at the early part of the season, but worth putting to one side when we make our Manchester City vs Brighton betting tips!
History
The head to head Manchester City vs Brighton results are very much in the champions’ favour. The Sky Blues have won five of the last six meetings, including a 1-4 victory on the South Coast to win the 2019 league title back in May.
They are unbeaten against the Seagulls in five but the underdogs do have a winning streak of four away from home.

You’d think that SBOBET tips rarely get much easier than this and, okay, Manchester City is going to win!
But at odds of 1.093 we’re going to have to work a little harder and I’m backing the Sky Blues to bag a couple before the break, one each for Aguero and Sterling.
Brighton is available at 30.00 if you are feeling lucky, while the draw is at 8.25.
The Asian Handicap margin is at 2.75, with City at 2.00 with that handicap and Brighton at 1.93 with that 2.75 goals start.
And 3-0 is the most likely score line at odds of 5.80.
