Two of the most inspired clubs in Italy have booked their tickets to the Coppa Italia final! It will be an All-Serie A contest, as Atalanta and Juventus will battle it out to earn the prestige of claiming one of the most coveted domestic cup titles in the entire football world.
The Coppa Italia 2024 betting odds suggest an all-out dog fight between La Dea and the Old Lady, as neither outfit boasts a significant advantage in the pre-match prices, but that’s what you’d expect when both teams have a star-studded and in-form cast of studs.
Surely, the likes of Teun Koopmeiners and Dusan Vlahovic will be the talk of the town during this final, given that these superstars pose as the leading scorers and faithful leaders of their respective clubs.
Vlahovic is the undisputed spearhead for the Old Lady’s offence, scoring 16 total goals in the 2023–24 season, nine goals more than second-leading scorer Federico Chiesa.
On the other side of the pitch stands Koopmeiners, who has scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for La Dea this season thus far. Koopmeiners may have scored fewer goals than Juve’s Vlahovic, but La Dea fans shouldn’t fret; Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as Atalanta’s most potent source of offence in the last few weeks across all competitions.
It will also be an intricate chess match for Max Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini, as both of their squads could potentially miss some pivotal pieces when they meet at Stadio Olimpico.
Now, as the football world awaits the duel between Koopmeiners and Vlahovic, let’s take a step back and analyse the marquee matchups between some of the supporting cast and the unsung heroes of Atalanta and Juventus.
Gianluca Scamacca vs Federico Chiesa
Despite not being their club’s top goal scorer this season, both Scamacca and Chiesa will still be two of the most potent players on the field during their final clash, given that both players are healthy.
Gianluca Scamacca has been unstoppable across all competitions as of late, carrying most of the load for La Dea in the Europa League, specifically when he played his magnum opus against Liverpool in the UEL quarterfinal, while also contributing a solid amount of goals for La Dea in Serie A.
As of now, the 25-year-old striker boasts 17 total goals across all competitions this 2023–24 season, while claiming four assists to boot.
Simultaneously, Federico Chiesa is blossoming into a solid No. 7 for the Old Lady. Using his immense pace and read for the game, Chiesa has been able to be the pacemaker for Allegri while scoring some goals and claiming some assists as well.
Despite his devastating ACL injury two years ago, Chiesa has been able to prove that he’s still one of Italy’s best wingers. But the 26-year-old still has a lot to prove, especially to his potential suitors, Roma. Chiesa recently showed glimpses of his pre-ACL form during their 1-1 draw with Roma, and SBOTOP Juventus fans are salivating for the same level of game for Chiesa in the upcoming Coppa Italia final.
Marco Carnesecchi vs Mattia Perin
With both of their defencive lines banged up, it’s up to Juan Musso and Mattia Perin to be the last bastions of defence for their respective clubs.
While both Allegri and Gasperini are known to rotate their keepers, it’s been Marco Carnesecchi and Mattia Perin who have been deployed the most by their respective managers to be the man between the sticks in their Coppa Italia campaigns, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the final would feature both of these talented keepers.
Carnesecchi made three appearances for Atalanta in the Coppa Italia this season, garnering 75 per cent of La Dea’s starts in the tournament. The budding 23-year-old averages one conceded goal per appearance and has not yet been able to tally a clean sheet. His performance will be magnified against Juventus, as they will possibly miss some of their first-choice defenders, Sead Kolasinac, Rafael Toloi, and Emil Holm, who are all sidelined due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Juve’s Mattia Perin has been Allegri’s first-choice keeper in the Coppa Italia, as the 31-year-old started 100 per cent of the Old Lady’s 2024 Coppa Italia campaign. With four appearances in the tournament under his belt, Perin has managed to tally two clean sheets en route to their final matchup against La Dea.
His form will be detrimental to the Old Lady’s success, given that the latest Coppa Italia 2024 news revealed that their skipper and star defender, Danilo, sustained a muscle injury, specifically a “a low-grade myotendinous injury of the hamstring” during their recent draw with Roma.
