The Liverpool trident of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has been on a tear in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), and they brought their greatness to new heights after increasing their tournament tally to 28 goals—more than any other TEAM in the competition.
The three scored Liverpool’s five goals against Roma, which allowed them to reach the mark. Liverpool have made a total of 38 goals in this year’s Champions League while the closest team, Real Madrid, have 28.
Furthermore, they have now equalled the 28 goals scored by the BBC (Cristiano Ronaldo 17, Gareth Bale 6, Karim Benzema 5) in the 2013-14 tournament and surpassed the 27 set by the MSN (Lionel Messi 10, Neymar 10, Luis Suarez 7) in 2014-15.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, it’s also the first time in UCL history that three players have scored eight or more goals for a team in the same season. Both Salah and Firmino have 10 goals while Mane has eight.
