Ligue 1: Mbappe May Not be the Only One Who Will Say Goodbye

countdown banner

The 2024 summer transfer window is going to be a busy time for Ligue 1 teams, particularly for some of the teams that are in the top half of the table.

PSG, for one, have already started to prepare for life without Kylian Mbappe, as they have identified a potential replacement for the Les Bleus captain.

Kylian Mbappe will leave the French capital after his contract expires in June, and according to the Ligue 1 2024 updates, it’s only a matter of time before he’ll announce his move to La Liga champions, Real Madrid.

Elsewhere, Lille and Nice are in danger of losing their key players, which doesn’t bode well for their SBOTOP Ligue 1 2024 odds ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Learn more about the latest in the French top-flight by continuing to read below.

All’s well that ends well between Mbappe, PSG

The Kylian Mbappe saga at PSG is finally reaching its conclusion. After the back-and-forth that has been going on for more than a year between the front office and Kylian Mbappe, the two sides will end their relationship on good terms.

Days before the imminent Real Madrid announcement, Nasser Al-Khelaifi went on record to wish Kylian Mbappe well ahead of his next journey. The PSG chief also added that the door will “always be open” for the 2018 World Cup champion to return to the club.

Kylian Mbappe’s stint with PSG is largely viewed as a success, save for a missing Champions League trophy. After impressing at AS Monaco in 2017 as an 18-year-old, Mbappe joined PSG via a mammoth €180 million transfer fee, and he went on to become one of the greatest players in club history, with six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, and three Trophee des Champions.

With Kylian Mbappe leaving soon, the Parisiens have turned to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as his potential replacement, as confirmed by the Georgian winger’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli. According to reports, PSG have tabled a €100 million bid for the Napoli star.

With or without Kvaratskhelia and Mbappe, the good news for PSG is that they remain a formidable group under Luis Enrique, as they still have the likes of Goncalo Ramos, Bradley Barcola, Randal Kolo Muani, and Ousmane Dembele up front.

Busy summer ahead for Lille

With Kylian Mbappe leaving PSG, his younger brother Ethan is also going to leave Paris, and Lille are reportedly considering acquiring him on a free transfer.

But, for now, recruiting the younger Mbappe is the least of their concerns, as Lille are facing the prospect of losing Jonathan David and Leny Yoro, two of their top youngsters.

David is coming off another fine season, leading Les Dogues in scoring with 23 goals and five assists in all competitions. The Canadian international also finished second in the Ligue 1 Golden Boot race with 19 league goals, eight behind Kylian Mbappe.

According to La Voix du Nord, Atletico Madrid have had exploratory talks with David’s camp about a transfer this offseason, as Los Rojiblancos plan to strengthen their frontline to keep up with Barcelona and Real Madrid (even Girona) in La Liga next term.

Veteran forward Yusuf Yazici, meanwhile, is set to leave Lille at the end of the season after a five-year spell with the club. The Turkish international was the team’s second-leading scorer this year with 10 goals, and he is linked with a move to AC Milan.

On the other side of the pitch, Lille are facing the dilemma of selling or keeping Leny Yoro, as PSG, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are all interested in him.

Yoro currently has one year left on his contract, and there’s speculation he might be sold this summer if he doesn’t sign an extension. The 18-year-old centre-back is reportedly valued at least €60 million in the transfer market.

Nice discuss Todibo’s future amid new manager appointment

With Francesco Farioli leaving for Ajax, Nice have appointed Franck Haise to be their manager starting next season.

Before joining Nice, Haise guided Lens to a seventh-place finish this season. Haise will oversee a Nice squad that was one of the best defencive teams in Ligue 1 this season.

Now that their managerial situation has been sorted out, the next concern Nice have to deal with is the immediate future of their top centre-back, Jean-Clair Todibo.

Todibo is one of Europe’s hottest commodities in the open market, as he is being pursued by a host of Premier League teams. The 24-year-old said that he is open to a potential move to the Premier League, which should be music to the ears of Manchester United and Chelsea.
