Ligue 1: Bordeaux Aiming For Another Win Against Brest

countdown banner

Bordeaux vs Brest

Bordeaux are looking to sustain their decent form as of late by hosting Brest in the sixth matchday of Ligue 1.

The match will be played at the Matmut Atlantique stadium, where the hosts are a force to be reckoned with. Les Girondins are currently at the ninth of the table with eight points.

On the other hand, Brest have failed to find their groove over their last two games. They are only placed 13th at the table with six points and they are more than eager to prove as to why their recent promotion is no fluke.

PSG may be getting all the headlines here because of their dominance in Ligue 1 over the last few seasons, but one must not overlook the exciting action brought by other teams such as this upcoming fixture on the weekend.

The matchup between Bordeaux and Brest has always been an intense affair, and I won’t be surprised if things get chippy and cards will be handed out for this match.

Today, SBOBET provides a quick preview on these teams and on how they would fare on their upcoming game.

Talking Points

Bordeaux aiming for a Europa League spot

It has been a while since they last won the Ligue 1 title, as their last title run was back in the 2009 season where they’ve overtaken the likes of Marseille and Lyon.

Les Girondins didn’t do so well last term as they’ve only placed 14th at the table with 41 points. Even if they were able to stave off relegation, something’s still amiss for the Paulo Sousa-coached squad as they continue to gun for a spot at the top-six this season in order to get in the Europa League.

Which is why over the summer, Bordeaux were busy during the transfer market in trying to acquire a good mix of old heads and young guns. For starters, they’ve added the likes of Mexer from Rennes, Laurent Koscielny from Arsenal, and Hwang Ui-Jo from the J-League to add depth.

Hwang Ui-Jo last played for Gamba Osaka in the J-League. The 27-year-old forward finished last season as the division’s third-highest scorer with 16 goals in 27 appearances. He is also a mainstay with the South Korean national team with 27 caps. His mix of speed, ball handling dexterity, and IQ has been sorely missed by his previous club, as they’ve struggled this term.

Bordeaux fans look to have high expectations for the South Korean forward — and rightfully so – as he has the capability to produce some this term’s top Ligue 1 2019 highlights.

Team manager Paulo Sosa will have the unenviable task of appeasing a frustrated fanbase for Bordeaux, but their recent form suggests that there are going to be better days ahead.

Brest’s rise to top-flight status

For the first time since the 2013 season, Brest have been promoted to Ligue 1 along with Metz for this campaign, and they plan on staying there for a long time.

Newly-minted manager Olivier Dall’Oglio will be tasked to right the ship for the Pirates after being sacked by Dijon last season, and this will be a second chance of sorts for the 55-year-old mentor.

Over the summer, Brest got a decent haul at the transfer market. They bolstered their defence by signing the likes of left-back Romain Perraud and defensive-minded midfielder Ibrahima Diallo for a relatively cheap price. But apart from those two, the club didn’t really get much else.

It would be hard to see them finish to as high as the top 10 this season while they may have to look over their shoulder in every match day. But perhaps maintaining top-flight status should be a victory in itself already.

History

All in all, they faced each other eight times where Bordeaux have won three while Brest won two along with three draws between them.

These teams have not played each other since 2013 where Brest won with a 2-0 tally.

The Paulo Sosa-mentored club’s last victory against the Pirates was a 2-0 victory back seven years ago.

Betting Tip

??
Bordeaux vs Brest Bordeaux 1×2 @1.79
September 22, 02:00 (GMT+8)

As a testament to their form recently, the home team is placed at 1.78 odds while Brest are at 4.50. The Ligue 1 odds for a draw in this one are pegged at 3.40 in the 1×2 market.

Even if the road team has got the better of Les Girondins on their recent encounters, one can’t simply overlook the way Bordeaux has been playing, especially at their home pitch.

Brest have had their share of struggles particularly on offence where they’ve only scored two goals in five matches and for sure they will an even harder time when they play on the road against Les Girondins.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
