After their terrific start to the season, making history and holding the Bundesliga top spot for some time, Leipzig are now in a freefall.
Many sports betting experts believe that they can challenge the Bavarians for the title, but their latest defeat decreased the betting odds of them doing so and made a Bayern championship an almost inevitable event.
Not to mention that live betting darlings Dortmund are closing out on them for the second place.
Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Ingolstadt
It wasn’t the kind of victory that Dortmund wanted, but the results were as expected as they remain firmly in control of third place. Their loss to Hertha in Matchday 24 has hurt their chances of repeating last year’s second-place finish, but a clinical showing inside the box from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put them back on the race. Ingolstadt, though, doesn’t look like a struggling squad as they threatened BVB throughout.
Wolfsburg 1-0 Darmstadt 98
The Wolves could have scored earlier through Riechedly Bazoer and Luiz Gustavo; fortunately, Mario Gomez’ header on the stroke of half-time was enough to propel them to victory and boost their survival hopes. Darmstadt barely got a chance to score in the second half as they remain rooted to the bottom.
Koln 4-2 Hertha BSC
Hat-trick hero Anthony Modeste helped write a new Bundesliga goal record as they took down the Berliners and moved within three points to them for fifth. Modeste scored twice in the first half before sealing his third just after the hour mark for his 22nd goal, which means that three players have now scored 20 or more goals after just 25 rounds for the first time in league history.
Yuya Osako was also on target for the Billy Goats, while Vedad Ibisevic and John Anthony Brooks’ efforts for Hertha went to no avail.
With both Modeste and Osako in excellent form for Cologne, they should be able to easily win against Hamburg even though they are the underdogs on odds of 1X2 @ 2.95.
Augsburg 1-1 Freiburg
Although still winless in their last three games, Augsburg will still be happy with the point they got against a team aspiring for a European place. Freiburg started aggressively and rightfully got the lead after Florian Niederlechner converted from the penalty area in 30 minutes, but Augsburg—fighting to get another season in the top flight—responded quickly and restored parity through Konstantinos Stafylidis. The home side is now one of the three teams with 29 points that are just above the danger area.
Werder Bremen 3-0 RB Leipzig
An in-form Bremen extended their unbeaten run to five with a win over the struggling Leipzig. Their victory has a distinct Austrian flavour to it as Zlatko Junuzovic, Florian Grillitsch and Florian Kainz all found the back of the net to spark their terrific run. Leipzig’s own Austria international Marcel Sabitzer did his best to pull them back along with Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg, but it all went in vain.
The Bulls got only one point over their last three matches this month, but despite their struggles, they should be able to turn things around when they host bottom team Darmstadt at the Red Bull Arena where they are tipped with 1X2 odds at 1.34.
Hoffenheim 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen
The game featured a combined 29 chances to score, but it was decided by just one goal. Both teams attacked relentlessly throughout, and although Bayer had the upper hand on offence, it was the stable and consistent Hoffenheim who broke the deadlock with Sandro Wagner firing home from an Andrej Kramaric cross. The hosts then tightened their defence to neutralise Chicharito and keep Bayer at bay.
Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Hamburger SV
Frankfurt snapped their five-game losing streak, thanks to a spirited defensive showing from the returning Marco Russ. The 31-year-old was indeed the hero of the match for Frankfurt as he helped end their skid, keeping Hamburg’s hit-man Bobby Wood in check for the most part. Goals were also a rarity in the game, though both teams have a couple of chances to break the deadlock.
Mainz 05 0-1 Schalke 04
Schalke banked on the momentum they got in their Europa League quarter-final qualification to take home the victory against the O-Fives. It wasn’t an easy game for the Royal Blues, though, as they had to withstand a fierce Mainz first-half attack. However, it all paid off come the second as Sead Kolasinac coolly slotted home for the lead.
Borussia Monchengladbach 0-1 Bayern Munich
Making his 250th Bundesliga appearance at just 27 years old, Thomas Muller made sure that his landmark fixture will be remembered. Gladbach did well in limiting Bayern’s chances on the pitch, but Muller won’t be stopped as his clean finish in 63 minutes catapulted the Bavarians 13 points clear at the top of the table. Remarkably, the goal was just Muller’s second of the season.
