La Liga: Getafe Might Leave Bernabeu Feeling Blue After Facing Real Madrid

countdown banner

Real Madrid vs Getafe

Getafe find themselves in a precarious situation as they’re fighting for their La Liga lives, and the odds are stacked against them when they head to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid on Saturday.

Because of their poor run of La Liga 2023 results, Jose Bordalas’ men are in 18th place with 34 points. Almeria, Cadiz, Real Valladolid, and Valencia are the teams above Getafe, and they’re only ahead by a point or two, so if they somehow beat Real Madrid, they can avoid the drop.

Real Madrid have been inconsistent lately, with two losses and one win in their last three, and they slipped to third behind Atletico Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men will look to reclaim the second spot while using this game to prepare for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie against Manchester City next week.

Talking Points

Real Madrid will tweak their lineup

With only a few days to prepare for the second leg against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals, it’s likely that Carlo Ancelotti will rotate his side against Getafe this weekend.

Eder Militao should be back after his Champions League ban, and he’ll be replacing Dani Carvajal in the starting lineup, who was sent off in their 2-0 loss against Real Sociedad last time out.

Eduardo Camavinga might be shifted back to midfield, where he’ll likely be joined by Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, to give Toni Kroos or Luka Modric the night off.

Vinicius Jr. should continue to lead in the final third because he’s in great form right now, and he might give Karim Benzema the night off too. Rodrygo and Marco Asensio will probably join him up front.

Three days after starring in their Copa del Rey final victory against Osasuna, the Brazilian winger delivered on Tuesday when he scored his seventh Champions League goal this season against Manchester City.

La Liga is no longer the top priority for Real Madrid since Barcelona are about to win it this year. However, they have too much pride to let their city rivals, Atletico Madrid, go ahead of them in the standings, so they won’t coast against Getafe.

Not enough firepower for Getafe

Getafe will likely implement a low block and attack on a counter against Real Madrid, which has almost worked for them before in their reverse fixture. With the players that they have, it is the approach that makes sense for them.

But on rare occasions, like against Celta Vigo last Thursday, Getafe were the aggressors, notching 14 total shots with four of them on target, compared to Celta Vigo’s seven and one on target.

Enes Unal scored the penalty that gave Los Azulones the crucial victory. However, he won’t be around against Real Madrid because he picked up his fifth yellow card this season, which merits a one-game suspension.

His absence is a huge loss for Getafe because he’s their only double-digit scorer this campaign with 14 goals, and he also has three assists.

Borja Mayoral will likely pick up the offencive cudgels for Getafe, and the former Real Madrid man already has eight goals and two assists this season.

TO SEE UPDATED ODDS

Real Madrid have Getafe’s number, as they have the highest winning percentage against them in La Liga, at 71.4-per cent to be exact. In the 35 games they played together prior to Saturday, Los Blancos recorded 25 wins, four draws, and six losses.

But Getafe have recorded four points in two of their last four La Liga matches against Real Madrid (W1, D1, L2) after having drawn just once in their previous 14 La Liga meetings (L13).

Getafe have lost their last 13 visits to the Bernabeu in La Liga, which is their worst road losing streak against a single opponent in the Spanish top-flight.

Betting Tip

The SBOTOP La Liga 2023 odds have Real Madrid installed as the overwhelming 1.49 favourites to defeat Getafe, who are priced at 6.00 to win on the road, while a draw was set at 3.05 in the 1X2 market.

Getafe should come out with a huge sense of urgency, and we expect them to bring it against a Real Madrid side that may not be 100-per cent focused on La Liga.

But in the end, Real Madrid’s overall quality might be too much for Getafe. The hosts should win this one, although they might be keen on saving their goals for the Manchester City second-leg game, making Under 2.75 at 2.13 your best bet.
