La Liga: Resurgent Sevilla Aim to Make it Four in a Row

countdown banner

Sevilla vs Getafe

Sevilla have been in strong form lately here in La Liga and they have plans to stretch their current win streak to four games this weekend.

Next on their list will be Getafe to whom they’ve had their way with in their recent encounters, making this look like a foregone conclusion. However, the visitors are eager to prove us otherwise.

It is easy to say that the hosts are heavily favoured since the disparity between these two clubs is substantial when looking at the Spanish top-flight standings.

With their solid outings recently, the hosts rose to the fourth place with 39 points while Getafe are only at the 12th spot – no thanks to their inconsistent form.

A win here would do wonders for Sevilla’s campaign as they can enter into the top three if things go according to plan, especially since their rivals have appeared vulnerable as of late.

Meanwhile, Getafe are in dire need of a victory since they are still vying for European qualification.

So who will emerge victorious in this enticing clash? Read on below as SBOTOP keeps you up-to-date with this match preview.

Talking Points

Sevilla are only going to get better

Since their loss to Atletico Madrid last January, Julen Lopetegui’s men have capitalised on the lighter part of their schedule by winning in three straight league games.

Alaves, Cadiz, and Eibar felt the wrath from the Andalusian giants as they’ve poured in a healthy amount of goals while conceding only once on the opposite end.

Youssef En-Nesyri has been the driving force for Sevilla’s resurgence as he continues to spearhead their attack. The Moroccan forward leads the team in scoring with 16 goals, making him a dark horse contender for the Pichichi trophy this season.

Meanwhile, Lucas Ocampos and Munir El Haddadi have done decently as well as both have accounted for seven goals and five assists as of this writing.

Compared to the other big clubs in Europe, Sevilla have been relatively quiet during the recently-concluded transfer window. However, they made sure that they got the best out of it.

Julen Lopetegui brought over former Atalanta talisman Papu Gomez in a team-friendly deal which would further strengthen their quality in the midfield.

Gomez’s long-term relationship with Atalanta has soured over these past few months and it was clear that a change of scenery was needed.

The Argentinian would surely bolster their depth as he will provide leadership, which makes Sevilla a more dangerous club in the long-term.

Getafe are struggling in the final third

After a brief two-game winning streak in January, Getafe find themselves in an unideal situation in the La Liga standings.

They could’ve moved up within the top 10, but a brutal loss against Athletic Bilbao and a draw from Alaves held them back to the 12th spot.

The lack of goals has been a problem for Jose Bordalas’ side as they are the second-worst in terms of scoring with only 17.

Angel Rodriguez may have led the team in scoring with five goals. But since late December, he has yet to punch in his sixth goal of the season.

Marc Cucurella and Jaime Mata are their joint second leading scorers with three goals apiece, but both have yet to establish themselves as consistent attacking threats.

History

Prior to this weekend’s contest, Sevilla and Getafe have faced off 36 times.

Sevilla own the slight advantage in the overall head-to-heads with 16 wins, while Getafe have won 13 times along with seven draws.

In the reverse fixture last December, Sevilla eked out a 1-0 win despite having zero shots on target as Getafe centre-back Xabier Etxeita made a crucial blunder of scoring an own goal during the 81st minute.

Betting Tip

??
Sevilla vs Getafe Sevilla Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 1.70
February 07, 04:00 (GMT+8)

The latest La Liga 2021 odds have Julen Lopetegui’s side as the winners for this upcoming contest.

Sevilla are priced at 1.70, while Getafe are pegged at 4.90 and chances for a draw are at 3.65 in the 1X2 market.

With a decent coach in Jose Bordalas and an intriguing crop of young and veteran players, Los Azulones are uniquely qualified to stop Sevilla on their tracks this Saturday.

However, their recent form is holding them back, making it hard for us to believe that they can do it. Meanwhile, the same can’t be said for Sevilla as they have been firing on all cylinders.

Julen Lopetegui will surely remind his boys to not let up especially since this is their opportunity to move further up into the La Liga standings.
