La Liga Inching Closer to a Return

The 2019-20 La Liga season could be back in June according to league officials and club coaches, and that is welcome news for fans.

As and when the Spanish league can start up again safely we’ll see a return to our screens of Lionel Messi and co as the battle lines at either end of the league table will be drawn. Last week, the Spanish health minister, Salvador Illa urged patience and no-one wants a return to play until all of the safeguards are in place. But the latest reports suggest a restart could be imminent.

Leganes head coach Javier Aguirre suggested the season could be up and running on June 20th. Over three months have passed since the season was put on hold on March 10th and among others, Barcelona returned to training after their squad underwent coronavirus testing, and Real Madrid are due to return today.

And the La Liga president Javier Tebas hopes football could resume as soon as June 12th with games being played every day to finish the season. “I’d like to restart on the 12th but we have to be prudent and it’s not just up to football,” he said. “It’s also up to society; we all need to focus on complying with measures to protect health.”

The matches will take place behind closed doors and all eyes will be on the Bundesliga which restarts this weekend, though Tebas is confident La Liga can restart without a major risk: “Out of 2,500 people tested we have only had eight positive cases. Infection during a match is practically impossible as we have done a study, which we’re releasing, which will show there is minimum risk in matches if we all respect the health measures.”

Barca searching in Italy for new talent

Although the 2019/20 league campaign is unlikely to end before late July at the earliest, champions Barcelona are already preparing for next season with two Serie A stars in their sights. The Blaugrana is confident of completing deals for Juventus star Miralem Pjanic and Inter Milan’s Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez. I Bianconeri are reported to value Pjanic at £52m while Inter will apparently hold out for £97m for their young forward, who has bagged 11 goals in 22 top-flight appearances this term.

Barca could make their move in the near future.

Here at SBOBET, we recently took a look back at the 2016 title race, a three-way tussle between Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. That three club battle went down to the wire, with the Catalans triumphing on the final day.

But this season it’s a two way battle for the title with the Blaugrana two points clear of Los Blancos at the top of La Liga table. The latest La Liga 2020 betting odds suggest the title will be returning to Catalonia but we are sure to see some twists and turns.

Is troubled Trippier on the move?

In amongst the La Liga 2020 updates a story has emerged in Madrid that a Rojiblancos star could be returning to the Premier League after just one season. Atletico Madrid wing-back Kieran Trippier has been in the news recently, but for the wrong reasons. As one of England’s biggest stars from their 2018 World Cup campaign, he moved to the Wanda Metropolitano last summer, but he’s recently been charged with breaching betting rules dating back to around the time of his move to Madrid.

He moved to Los Rojiblancos in a high profile move from Spurs, but the Madrid club has indicated it would now be willing to listen to offers, naming a price of £20m. The 29-year-old has recently indicated he’d favour a move back to his previous club Burnley, and with the threat of a ban looming, if he’s found guilty, Atleti might be keen to let him go.

Trippier has impressed with some strong performances in La Liga and several Premier League clubs are thought to be tracking his process, but rumours are circulating he is looking for a house in the northwest of England, close to Burnley where he enjoyed hero status during his stint between 2011 and 2015, playing 185 times and making 37 assists.

Whether the Clarets will shell out £20m for their former star remains to be seen, but if they don’t Trippier will not be short of suitors.
