K-League: Surprising Sangju Look to Extend Win Streak at Suwon

Suwon Samsung Bluewings vs Sangju Sangmu FC

Sangju Sangmu have been the surprise package of the K-League season thus far. The military men are riding high in third place in the table, right behind title contenders Jeonbuk and Ulsan, despite having a negative goal difference.

Sangju will have their sights set on extending their current winning streak to three games when they go away to Suwon Bluewings.

Suwon have struggled to find any sort of form this season and should expect a battle on their hands at home against a Sangju side that will not shrink from a fight.

Talking Points

Bluewings yet to take flight

Suwon Bluewings just haven’t gotten their season up and running. They were unable to build from their 2-0 win over Seongnam as they suffered a 3-1 away defeat to Daegu FC last time out.

Granted, there’s no shame in losing to Daegu, who are one of the most in-form teams in the league with three wins in their last four matches. The K-League 2020 betting odds were heavily against the Bluewings in that game.

Suwon have been inconsistent this season and have yet to win back-to-back games. In fact, their K-League 2020 results have been fascinating to look at; they haven’t had the same result in consecutive games since losing their first two matches of the season to Jeonbuk and Ulsan.

Their win over Seongnam is their only win in their last five matches, and their only other win this season is a 1-0 home victory over last-placed Incheon United.

Despite their loss to Daegu, Suwon should be encouraged by the fact that they got six shots on target. Unfortunately, they were unable to make more of those chances count.

Adam Taggart finally got off the mark as he scored his first goal of the season in their 2-0 win over Seongnam. But the Aussie still hasn’t reached the form that saw him lead the K-League with 20 goals last term.

Taggart and Suwon will need to be much more clinical against a Sangju side that will not give up that many chances.

Sangju’s surprising early-season success

Sangju Sangmu have had a surprisingly strong start to the season. They’ve bounced back from three consecutive winless matches to win their last two games in a row — both 1-0 victories over FC Seoul and Seongnam FC.

It should be noted that both Seongnam and Seoul are struggling mightily at the moment. Sangju also got very lucky against Seongnam as they were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute to steal the game at the death. But still, Sangju deserve credit for getting the job done.

With a side composed of military personnel and players from other teams doing their military service, manager Kim Tae-wan hardly has the most talented squad to work with. But similar to last season, Kim has worked wonders in terms of organising his team well, particularly at the back.

Excluding their two losses to attacking powerhouses Ulsan and Pohang Steelers, wherein they conceded four goals each, Sangju have surrendered just two goals in their other six games.

That ability to keep things tight at the back has helped them succeed despite having difficulty finding the back of the net. They’ve scored just nine times in their first eight matches, while the other four teams in the top five have all scored at least 13 times.

History

Suwon have thoroughly dominated their matchups against Sangju over the years. In the past 10 years, Suwon have won 13 out of their 24 matches, with Sangju winning just three times.

Suwon even went a stretch of 18 consecutive matches without losing to Sangju. They won 11 of those 18, with seven draws.

However, that long winning streak finally came to an end last season as Sangju scored a 4-1 win in the Classic Relegation Round. It was their first win over Suwon since 2011.

Betting Tip

??
Suwon Samsung Bluewing vs Sangju Sangmu FC Sangju Sangmu FC Asian Handicap +0.25 @ 1.87
June 28, 18:00 (GMT+8)

Despite Sangju’s strong start to the season, SBOBET odds still have them as 2.85 underdogs against Suwon, who are priced as 2.41 favourites due to home advantage. A draw is 3.20.

Those odds reflect how many different ways this game can go. But I’m still confident Sangju can come away with a positive result at Suwon.

That is why I’m going with Sangju on the Asian Handicap market, where even if they don’t win outright, a draw will still win half your bet.

Sangju have been excellent at making things tough for their opposition, and with Suwon’s Adam Taggart struggling to hit the target, they should have a decent shot at keeping the Bluewings in check.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
