Juventus Have One Foot Into the Coppa Italia Final

countdown banner

Juventus fans can breathe a sigh of relief after their team finally put an end to their barren run. After their 2-0 win over Lazio last night in the first leg, the Old Lady is one step closer to making it back to the Coppa Italia final.

The Bianconeri last won the whole thing in 2020-21. And because Juventus have been underwhelming this season, this is probably their best chance of winning some silverware, so they have to go all out.

Lazio can realistically still make a comeback in the next leg, though, especially since they’ve beaten Juventus before, but the updated Coppa Italia 2024 odds have tilted in Juve’s favour after last night’s result.

The winner of the semi-final tie between Juventus and Lazio will get to face the winner between Atalanta and Fiorentina, whose semi-final matchup will commence later.

In case you missed it, we are here to bring you the newest Coppa Italia 2024 updates.

Juventus have a reason to smile again, but the job’s not yet finished

The calls for Max Allegri’s head have subsided just a little bit after yesterday’s win.

While Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic get most of the plaudits for giving Juve a two-goal advantage, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Mattia Perin, Gleison Bremer, Weston McKennie, and Andrea Cambiaso for their efforts.

Andrea Cambiaso’s excellent long ball found its way to Federico Chiesa, who scored his first goal since Juventus’ 2-1 Serie A defeat to Napoli last month. The 24-year-old wing-back now has three assists this season.

Mattia Perin deputised for Wojciech Szczesny, and the 31-year-old shot stopper managed to secure a clean sheet, thanks in large part to their solid back three of Gleison Bremer, Danilo, and Federico Gatti.

Moreover, Weston McKennie showed us why he’s one of the best playmakers in Serie A today, as the American international teed up Dusan Vlahovic for the second goal to take his assist tally to 10 this season across all competitions.

Prior to last night, Juventus came into this game in poor form because they were winless in four consecutive matches (D2, L2).

With the victory in the first leg, the hope for Max Allegri and his men is that they can carry their momentum ahead of their next three Serie A matches (against Fiorentina, Torino, and Cagliari) before the second leg on April 24.

Immobile’s scoring drought continues for Lazio

Lazio will aim to reverse the deficit in goals following a first-leg Coppa Italia defeat against Juventus
Lazio failed to win the first-leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus

If Lazio are going to make a comeback against Juve, they would have to get Ciro Immobile going in the next few weeks.

The 34-year-old striker may be the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals, but he hasn’t found the back of the net since converting a penalty kick in their 1-0 win against Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Immobile had another anonymous performance yesterday and was replaced by Taty Castellanos late in the second half. Overall, Lazio had 11 total shots, but none of them hit the target.

Look for Ciro Immobile to try and get back onto the scoresheet against AS Roma, Salernitana, and Genoa, who don’t exactly boast a robust backline in Serie A.

Fiorentina have a relatively full squad, while Atalanta might miss three key players

Atalanta and Fiorentina will finally meet again after their Serie A match was recently postponed because Joe Barone was taken ill.

It’s been a rough time for Fiorentina fans because, other than the passing of Barone, the team was unable to maximise their game in hand against AC Milan last time out. In contrast, Atalanta beat Napoli 3-0 on Saturday to end their winless run, so here we are.

Fiorentina managed to beat Atalanta in their reverse Serie A fixture this season with a 3-2 scoreline, so they are slightly favoured by the SBOTOP betting odds to win later.

Another reason why they are being favoured is because head coach Vincenzo Italiano has a full squad at his disposal, with Giacomo Bonaventura available again for selection after serving his suspension and backup goalie Oliver Christensen being their lone absentee.

As for Atalanta, Charles De Ketelaere is not expected to play due to injury, and they are sweating on the fitness of Davide Zappacosta and Giorgio Scalvini, both of whom were forced off the pitch in their victory over Napoli. But either way, Teun Koopmeiners, Gianluca Scamacca, and Ademola Lookman will continue to lead the way for La Dea. This year, the trio has accounted for 30 goals and 10 assists for the team.
