Manchester United vs Chelsea
Well if anyone does, it has to be the Special One. Jose Mourinho managed Chelsea to (mostly) great success, where he had the upper hand over Manchester United.
But now he’s in the other camp, and the Red Devils are playing like his Chelsea of old: big players that are well organised with the nous to win football games. And this one is huge.
Not long ago, betting websites had Manchester United and the current champions both nailed on for a top-four place. But recent defeats, including United to Newcastle and Chelsea to Watford, not only trashed betting tips but also cast their Champions League places in doubt. United sit four points above fifth-placed Spurs, and Chelsea just one.
This is a game neither team can afford to lose.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has come under scrutiny recently; maybe unfair, but that’s the nature of the Premier League. Last season’s title winner can so quickly become this season’s flop. Ask Jose! Chelsea did match Barcelona in the Champions League this week, though, so all is not lost.
But Jose is the master tactician that spoils the ambitions of any opponent, and he’ll have his plan. Alexis Sanchez has injected some excitement into his team, and I expect the chastised Old Trafford faithful to be up for this one. United won the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season.
But Alvaro Morata scored the only goal when Chelsea beat the Reds at Stamford Bridge this season, so expect him to be closely watched if selected.
