It’s an Intriguing Start to the Season

countdown banner

The Bundesliga clubs have only played a few football games so far, but the table is already an interesting sight.

Dortmund are at the top and Bayern are nursing a painful loss to Hoffenheim at sixth place. Leipzig suffered a surprising opening-week loss to Schalke, a side brought down by the newly promoted Hannover during the following game day. Bayer Leverkusen and Koln are struggling at the bottom of the table.

If this table doesn’t produce any interesting betting odds, I don’t know what will.

WEEK 4 SATURDAY:

Hannover 96 vs Hamburger SV

Football betting experts expected Hannover to try and solidify their position after a year of absence from the top flight. However, nobody saw the club to perform this well at the start of the season. I think Andre Breitenreiter can extend his side’s undefeated streak when Hamburger SV visit the HDI-Arena. The favourable conditions will work well for them, so a bet for Hannover’s -0.50 @ 2.20 isn’t bad.

Bayern Munich vs Mainz 05

Bayern’s 2-0 defeat to Hoffenheim is a big surprise to Carlo Ancelotti and his star-studded cast. Julian Nagelsmann’s lads did a wonderful job of handling the pressure and turning the few possessions they had to goals.

Expect the Bavarians to come back hungry and put on the hurt against Mainz.

Werder Bremen vs Schalke 04

Schalke quickly erased the taste of defeat at Hoffenheim by overwhelming Stuttgart. With their attack already producing results this early in the season, there’s no reason to expect this club to do well against the struggling Werder Bremen. Schalke’s 1X2 odds of 2.68 promise great returns to the willing punter.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Augsburg

Borth sides are having a quietly okay start to their season, registering a notch in their win, draw and loss columns. Both have just come off big victories and will want to start a winning run with this match. Players to watch in this match are Kevin-Prince Boateng and Alfreo Finnbogason.

VfB Stuttgart vs VfL Wolfsburg

Stuttgart and Wolfsburg are at the lower end of the table, which could be worrying for some. Fortunately, it’s still early in the season. Both sides can still make things right with a win in this match. Andries Jonker and Hannes Wolf should address the lack of goals their respective attackers have displayed in front of goal.

WEEK 4 SUNDAY:

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Leipzig’s shock defeat to Schalke probably rattled Ralph Hasenhuttl and his young core. Fortunately for him, Timo Werner and rest of the Red Bulls made up in their subsequent matches. Monchengladbach should not be a problem for them if they play their usual football.

Hoffenheim vs Hertha BSC

Their outstanding win against Bayern Munich should have given a large confidence boost to Julian Nagelsmann and the 1899. Pulling off a clean sheet against one of Europe’s most dangerous squads is no small feat in itself.

The win should ease them to win against Hertha Berlin. With their last fixtures being a loss to Dortmund and a draw to Bremen, I don’t see Marc Uth not scoring a goal or two. Hoffenheim’s -1.00 Asian Handicap odds @ 2.33 is a risky but worthwhile punt to make.

Bayer Leverkusen vs SC Freiburg

Things aren’t looking better for Bayer Leverkusen. The departures of Chicharito and Hakan Calhanoglu in the summer transfer window left Bayer a lot weaker, making a side like Freiburg look dangerous to them. Heiko Herrlich needs to do a lot of overhauling to ensure their survival this season.

WEEK 4 MONDAY:

Borussia Dortmund vs FC Koln

Ousmane Dembele’s departure may have hurt Dortmund, as their draw against Freiburg will show. However, I don’t think they’ll be so bad that they’ll lose against a disheartened Koln side. Anthony Modeste took Koln’s attacking power with him when he left for China. Peter Stoger won’t have it any easier as Dortmund still have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on their payroll.
