It’s easy to run out of superlatives when you describe the feats of Lionel Messi. Magnificent, breathtaking and yes…he’s the best player in the world.
Sports betting fans know the magician can make any game his, and he did just that by smashing four goals as Barca destroyed Eibar 6-1. And what betting odds would you get on Messi adding to his 28 league hat-tricks again this season? On this form he’s simply unplayable.
And following a shock home defeat, which wrecked a few confident football bets, Real Madrid is now seven points behind the leaders
Barcelona 6-1 Eibar
Lionel Messi ran the show yet again at the Camp Nou with a masterful display to cement Ernesto Valverde’s team’s place at the top of the league. He started the rout with a 20th minute penalty before adding a second half hat-trick.
Sevilla 1-0 Las Palmas
Las Palmas put up a good fight at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and held out until the 83rd minute but when the goal came it was a beauty. Jesus Navas hit a screamer from distance, and at a tight angle, into the top corner to keep Sevilla second.
Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Atletico Madrid
Two second half goals, the first soon after the break from Angel Correa, and the second on 73 minutes by Yannick Carrasco were enough to ensure Atletico remains unbeaten. Garcia scored late for Athletic Club but the game was gone.
Valencia 5-0 Malaga
A quick-fire hat-trick from former West Ham striker Simone Zaza took this game away from Malaga in an instant. He bagged all three in a devastating nine minutes to send the demanding Mestalla fans wild as Valencia goes fourth.
Levante 3-0 Real Sociedad
Levante continued its unbeaten start to the season with a fine win over Sociedad to move up six places to fifth. Chema Rodriguez opened the scoring in the first half before Jose Morales and Enis Bardhi added to Sociedad’s woes.
Real Madrid 0-1 Real Betis
Zinedine Zidane has appealed for calm after Antonio Sanabria nodded in a late, late winner for Real Betis, which rather spoiled the return from suspension of Cristiano Ronaldo. These are early days but seven points to the top is some gap.
Leganes 0-0 Girona
Leganes will be disappointed not to have won this and is now three games without a victory. It could have been worse as Girona’s Juanpe was denied by the crossbar late in the game.
Villarreal 0-0 RCD Espanyol
Having an extra day off than their visitors, who played on Monday, didn’t help Villarreal as the Yellow Submarine failed to break down Espanyol’s defence. The draw leaves Espanyol in early peril though.
Celta Vigo 1-1 Getafe
When Hugo Mallo nodded down for Maxi Gomez to fire home in the first half it looked like Celta Vigo was about to grab a crucial three points, but Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez fired home on 86 minutes to halt the celebrations.
Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 Alaves
Depor grabbed a crucial first win in a tense affair thanks to a well directed strike from Luisinho after Florin Andone had teed him up, a minute before half time. They couldn’t add to it in the second half but held on as Alaves remains pointless.
