We may well be watching the Confederations Cup 2017 winners at the Kazan Arena on Friday in the big game of the week.
Chile and Germany, the tournament favourites according to betting odds, meet in the second Round of Group B football games. Both already have a win in the bag and may well be happy with a draw; whereas in the other game, both Australia and Cameroon need a victory to keep their hopes alive.
Chile vs Germany
This game promises to throw up some fascinating tussles, none more so than between Chilean enforcer Arturo Vidal and Germany’s Leon Goretzka who was so impressive against Australia. Joachim Low’s team was pushed all the way by the workmanlike opposition and, despite the influence of Goretzka and Julian Draxler, made a couple of defensive mistakes uncharacteristic of any German team. Bernd Leno looked unconvincing in the nets, and that won’t have gone unnoticed in the Chile camp. If Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez makes an appearance, he could be in for a treat.
Australia vs Cameroon
After being completely dominated in the first half, Australia put up a great fight against Germany, losing only by the odd goal in five. Goalie Matt Ryan will hope for more protection against Cameroon, though, whose boss Hugo Broos is looking for more confidence from his side which surrendered to Chile in the last ten minutes of their opening game. Striker Benjamin Moukandjo could give Ryan another busy evening.
