Chelsea vs Bayern Munich
Singapore is the setting for the next bout in the ICC series of football games, and this one is a clash of the big-hitting heavyweights.
The Champions of England and Germany meet in the Singapore National Stadium on Tuesday, both managed by top Italian coaches and primed for success.
For some time, the easiest football prediction has been that Bayern will win the Bundesliga. So I’ll say it again now: Carlo Ancelotti’s champions will likely dominate domestically again and be a powerful force in Europe. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be buoyed by the news that boss Antonio Conte has committed himself for another two seasons, and they’re preparing to make a fierce defence of their title.
The Blues will soon be joined by new signing Alvaro Morata who flew in for a medical on Thursday, citing Chelsea as ‘the best club’; and he’s set to replace Diego Costa as the Blues’ number one striker. Conte has already recruited well, bringing talented midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.
Chelsea’s last competitive game was a 2-1 reversal to Arsenal in the FA Cup final and, as it happens, FC Bayern failed to see off the Gunners in midweek in the ICC Cup. They led for almost the entire game after Robert Lewandowski had put them ahead on nine minutes. But they succumbed to a 94th-minute equaliser before the Germans lost to the English side on penalties.
Yes…you read that right!
With typical ruthless calculation, Bayern has announced it is willing to sell one of the penalty missers, Renato Sanches.
Pure coincidence, I’m sure.
