Exciting quarter-final football games satisfy the crowd

countdown banner

Football betting continues to heat up as the Africa Cup of Nations is down to its final four nations.

Burkina Faso and Cameroon, the first two nations to advance, gave their supporters a lot to cheer about with their thrilling results. The final two games gave live betting fans some nuggets to think about, as the upcoming semi-final will be interesting to watch.

Congo DR 1-2 Ghana

Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew was the player that let Ghana through a strong Congo DR side. The Black Stars weren’t able to break the Red Devils’ defence until it was fairly deep into the second half. A brilliant Mubarak Wakaso pass on the counter put Ayew in a perfect situation, avoided two defenders to slot the opener on the top-right corner.

However, Paul-Jose M’Poku evened the score with a belter of a goal from way outside the penalty box, a super strike with just enough spin to put it out of Razak Brimah’s reach. The game could have gone to extra time if it wasn’t for a late foul by the Congolese defence on the penalty box. Andre Ayew slotted the penalty and brought Ghana closer to the final.

It will be interesting to see how they will fare against Cameroon.

Egypt 1-0 Morocco

Any loss in a big competition is painful; Morocco’s is a bit more hurtful due to a number of reasons.

The Atlas Lions did have the football more than the Pharaohs but they failed to convert their possession to really viable chances. They knew coming in that Egypt will be a tough nut to crack offensively, but their top-heavy formation wasn’t able to break the Egyptians. The Moroccans only had a third of their 12 shot attempts to be on target.

What did them in was a poorly defended late corner. Two substitutes had their hand on the winner: Koka chested the football in front of goal for Kahraba to smash past Munir. They went on to win the game 1-0.

Their semi-final fixture with red-hot Burkina Faso will be another game worth watching.
