And then, seconds later, before there was time for that thought to be processed, it was over.
Liverpool were through to their first Champions League final for 11 years and will meet holders Real Madrid in the May 26 showpiece.
With a respectable nod to this summer’s World Cup, will there be a greater football spectacle in 2018?
If the semi-finals are anything to go by, the answer is an emphatic no!
