Republic of Ireland vs Denmark
This is a tense time for many of Republic of Ireland’s football betting fandom.
All the football games the Boys in Green have played over the last two years finally boils down to 90 minutes of football. Whether they will be able to attend their first World Cup finals since 2002 or miss out on another tournament will be up to how they will perform against Denmark.
The live betting favourites, with -0.25 Asian Handicap @ 2.36 for their upcoming match, were met with disdain in Copenhagen after the first leg of their playoff against Martin O’Neill’s men ended in a scoreless draw. They weren’t able to score despite holding the ball for most of the game. The Irish defence deserves as much praise as the potent Danish attackers got flak for their failure to score.
However, the Irish should know better than to feel comfortable in their home ground. Ex-Arsenal man Nicklas Bendtner is confident that his squad could easily turn things around and make a run for the victory. With players such as Andreas Cornelius, Yussuf Yurary and Christian Eriksen donning the Danish kit, they have a great chance of making it through.
Ireland need masterful performances from their lads if they want to reach the World Cup final for the first time in 16 years. Darren Randolph has to pull off some heroics between the sticks, Stephen Ward and Cyrus Christie must hold the line, and goals should be made by the Daryl Murphy and James McClean-led attack.
I have no doubts that Ireland will be able to put up an impressive fight, but past results show how consistent Denmark can become. I don’t think they’ll buckle here of all places, so I expect a narrow Danish win.
