Copa del Rey 2019: Interesting Storylines Develop as Quarters Close

Copa del Rey Quarter-Finals

This is one of the biggest competitions in Spanish football, but not everyone may be aiming for this top prize.

This year’s Copa del Rey offers a couple of interesting storylines to neutral sports betting fans that are enthralled with the Spanish game. Spain’s biggest cup competition still features some of the country’s biggest football clubs, but not all of them are likely prioritising the contest as pressing concerns in other competitions may pull them away from the contest.

While other battles may stray the attention of the biggest clubs in the league, this is still the Cup of Kings; the highest knockout competition in what is arguably the best league in football.

SBOBET fans should not miss out on the opportunity to catch these games as there is a chance for any of these games to become instant classics.

Valencia vs (1-0 on agg.) Getafe

Los Che haven’t been their usual selves lately. They have been relegated to the Europa League after failing to make an impression in the Champions League group stages. While they have been rather impressive in the league, more than half of the games they have played this season ended in draws.

Their opponents in Getafe are also currently denying them in the league and the cup. The Azulones are keeping them out of the final Europe spot by just two points. Moreover, the first leg ended in favour of El Geta as they managed to finish at home with a 1-0 lead.

The series of disappointing results have left Marcelino Garcia uncertain of his future with the Bats. However, he can still salvage his situation if Rodrigo and the rest of the team manage to pull themselves together.

Barcelona vs (0-2 on agg.) Sevilla

Sevilla are more than frustrated with how things have gone for their La Liga season. They have fallen down the ranks after suffering successive defeats to Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid. With the way things are going, it’s possible to say that they are down and out for the league title.

However, they have had a dominant display in the Copa del Rey. They showed the Blaugrana just how dominant they are at home with a dominant showcase in the first leg that starred goals from Pablo Sarabia and Wissam Ben Yedder. They have also shown their class in the cup by making the semis last year.

However, it’s important for fans to remember why the Copa del Rey 2019 odds still favour the Catalan giants over Seville. Lionel Messi is still the unstoppable force on the pitch, and there’s little to no doubt that goals are in order for both teams.

Even if he doesn’t play, they have plenty of talented players on their roster. Men such as Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal are some of the other players that don the Barca crest on their chest.

The question now is this: will Barcelona actually prioritise the cup they have won multiple times when they could just focus their efforts on securing their lead at the top of La Liga and getting past Lyon in the Champions League?

Real Betis vs (1-1 on agg.) Espanyol

Things are tied up between the two mid-table La Liga sides as they meet at the Benito Villamarin for the second leg of their quarter-final tie. Both teams will want the victory here as it helps them build stability as much as they would want to reach the semi-final.

Betis have fared well up front, netting 25 goals in 21 league games. However, they still need a boost in their attack to help them close out their more winnable games. They are trying to acquire Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen, but the Netherlands international might not make it on time.

However, it’s not like they are lacking in attacking talent. As long as Giovani Lo Celso, Loren Moron, and Sergio Canales come up with some strong attacking plays, Betis can snatch a semi-final berth from a leaky Espanyol defence that conceded 34 goals in the league so far.

Girona vs (4-2 on agg.) Real Madrid

It’s either this game or the Barcelona-Sevilla match that will make the loudest Copa del Rey 2019 news.

Real Madrid fans have been taken for quite a ride this season. Their team has disappointed them multiple times throughout the year, and Santiago Solari is far from being the permanent touchline solution to the dip Los Blancos have been going through in their first post-Ronaldo season.

However, their most recent results saw them fly up the league table as they begin looking more like their old selves again. Of course, some of their wins have been far from clean. For example, they allowed Getafe to get two away goals on them in the first leg of their Copa tie.

They must outscore the Gironistes at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi if they want to secure their semi-finals berth. And that is something I think Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and the rest of Real Madrid can manage.
