Brazil vs Peru
After three weeks and 25 games it’s here at last, the Copa America final, and the home supporters can’t wait, as hosts Brazil prepare to take on Peru.
The latest Copa America 2019 betting odds here at SBOBET have Brazil at 1.29 to win and anything other would send the passionate Selecao fans into meltdown. After all, they booed their team off at half time in the opening fixture against Bolivia and had to suffer a humiliation on home soil against Germany at the 2014 World Cup.
Football is a religion in Brazil and thousands, if not millions, of prayers will be uttered as the two teams take the field for the final showdown.
Underdogs Peru have been largely underwhelming in the campaign but swept champions Chile aside in the semi-final, a result and performance which will have sent shivers down the spine of many a Selecao devotee!
Talking Points
Is this Brazil’s destiny?
According to Lionel Messi, Brazil is lucky to be in the Copa America final having, in the Argentine captain’s opinion, had a lot of help from the referee in their semi final win. The Argentine FA has filed an official complaint but Brazil won’t care one jot, particularly if they can finish the job against Peru.
Of all the Copa America 2019 results Brazil’s 2-0 win over the Albiceleste has been the most talked about, not only has it extended Argentina’s, and Messi’s, 26 year wait for a trophy, it’s also opened the door for a home triumph for the Samba Boys. The Premier League stars Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus were both on target in the semi-final to add to Messi’s misery. It was Firmino’s second goal of the tournament and he moves alongside Everton, and Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, who scored a second half double in that opener against Bolivia.
After a slow start in the competition the Selecao has gathered pace and hit top form in a 5-0 destruction of Peru as they eventually cruised through Group A and into the quarter-finals.
How could I fail to love you?
The Incas recovered from that hammering and qualified for the knockout stages after finishing as one of the best third placed sides.
Peru fans have big hearts and aren’t afraid to show it. As their team put on a passionate and brilliant display to beat Chile in the semi-final, their loving supporters sang: “You’re my dear Peru, the blessed country that created me. How could I fail to love you?”
Fans around the world, particularly in England, could learn from that. The beautiful sentiment and prose beats the pants off ditties such as, ‘we’re gonna score in a minute,’ or ‘you’re **** and you know you are!’
They might be lovely songsters but can the Incas possibly beat Brazil? Well, head coach Ricardo Gareca masterminded the stunning semi-final win as Chile’s reign as Copa champions came to an end in spectacular style after Peru put on a performance belying its modest efforts in the first four games. Veteran striker Paolo Guerrero put the finishing touches on the win for his second goal of the tournament to send Peru into its first final for 44 years.
History
It’s Peru’s first appearance at a Copa America final since 1975 and they have rather stumbled to this stage, with a win over hapless Bolivia, two goalless draws and the
5-0 stuffing at the hands of their final opponents.
They squeezed past a strong Colombia side on penalties and few expected them to survive an encounter with the tough Chile side, but if any La Roja fans thought they’d have an easy ride they were seriously surprised.
Brazil is looking for a first Copa triumph since 2007 and their supporters will fully expect them to succeed.
The head to heads since 1970 don’t provide much comfort for Peru fans with only one win in the 11 games, while the Selecao won eight and there were two draws.
The last six games have all been Brazil wins with a goal difference of 16 to two and,
when playing at home, Brazil has not lost to Peru in its last three encounters.
The Selecao hasn’t lost in 15 games and is unbeaten on home soil in the last 18.

We all like a little romance and I don’t want to break Los Incas’ hearts before their heroes have even taken the pitch. But I think Peru’s rollercoaster ride to the final is about to end in tears.
The underdogs are at 1.90 with the +1.50 start, and the double chance Peru or Draw is available at 3.30.
But with Firmino, Jesus and Coutinho all firing…I’m pretty confident it’s going to be a Samba celebration.
