Champions League: Real Madrid Thumps Galatasaray Through Rodrygo’s Hat-Trick

Real Madrid 6-0 Galatasaray

Real Madrid have asserted their mastery over the visiting Galatasaray club by posting an impressive 6-0 tally in the ongoing Champions League group stage matches.

The Zinedine Zidane-coached squad continues to show improvement as they’re in a much better position to boost their Champions League 2019 odds of securing their spot for the next round. Los Blancos are currently second in the Group A table with seven points.

Placed above them are Paris Saint-Germain with 12 while Club Brugge and Galatasaray have two and one respectively.

The win didn’t come any sweeter for Los Blancos, as some of their players have achieved historical feats in the process. Rodrygo became the second-youngest player in Champions League history to score a perfect hat-trick, while his teammate Karim Benzema became the fourth player in tournament history to net 50 goals for a single club.

On the other hand, Galatasaray’s woes continue as they failed to register yet another win – and a goal -for this tournament.

Today, SBOBET recaps the Champions League 2019 highlights in this match.

Highlights of the game

Good things have happened to Zinedine Zidane’s side since he inserted Rodrygo into the starting XI during their reverse fixture against Galatasaray. The 18-year-old wunderkind has been a revelation for Real Madrid and he should continue to do well with the opportunities presented to him.

The Brazilian forward immediately made his impact in this game by rifling in two quick goals in a span of four minutes. He would clip in a calm, low left strike just inside the box for the first one, while he headed in a wonderful cross from Marcelo for his second goal of the night.

Real Madrid was in the driver’s seat for much of the night as they continued to push the pace to suffocate Galatsaray’s defence.

After Galatasaray failed to clear the ball out during the 11th minute, Toni Kroos was fouled inside the penalty area via a challenge by Steven Nzonzi. That gave the home team a penalty kick and Sergio Ramos netted one in for Los Blancos’ third goal.

Galatasaray tried their best to chip one in for their first goal of the tournament when Mario Lemina let out a long-range strike at the 15th minute, but his shot was blocked by Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid netted a goal after a free kick in the 39th minute. However, the referees waved it off since Casemiro was caught offside.

Right before the first half ended, Karim Benzema got into the scoring party when Rodrygo found him cutting inside the box for the cool finish. Galatasaray’s defenders looked listless for the whole evening.

Eden Hazard tried to join in as well but Fernando Muslera’s foot got in the way of his shot attempt. The former Chelsea striker was not yet in his superb form in this game.

Isco almost scored a goal of his own after just coming in to replace Eden Hazard, but his wonderful first touch was parried away by Fernando Muslera.

Galatasaray’s defence have slightly improved in the second half as they would try to form a wall inside the penalty area. However, they couldn’t generate many chances on the other end and Real Madrid’s quality was too much to handle.

Benzema struck again in the 81st minute when he knocked the ball into the net to move on to 50 Champions League goals for Los Blancos, moving ahead of a fellow Real Madrid great in Alfredo Di Stefano.

Rodrygo Goes would cap off his fine performance in added time after a lovely chip off of a wonderful pass by Karim Benzema under multiple Galatsaray defenders. It was the perfect finale for Rodrygo, who was serenaded by the crowd in Bernabeu.

Key statistics

Rodrygo Goes became the second-youngest player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick at 18 years and 301 days, overtaking PSG’s Marquinhos (19 years 126 days).

Karim Benzema became the fourth player in tournament history to score at least 50 goals for a single club.

Galatasaray have now conceded 27 goals against Los Blancos in the Champions League, which is 13 more than against any other teams.

What’s next?

Real Madrid are set to fly over in the Ipurua Municipal Stadium to face Eibar in their La Liga match while Galatasaray will face Gaziantep in the Turkish Super League on Sunday.

Los Blancos have a chance to officially book their spot for the next round if they manage to beat PSG in their next Champions League game with a game to spare. That much-awaited match will be on November 27th.
